We were filming up near the Bear Mountain Inn yesterday and I noticed this Jackie Robinson reserved table.

I asked one of the staff members what that was all about and she told me-
When Jackie Robinson stayed at the Inn and went to dine at the dining room he wasn't allowed to due segregation. Now, they permanently leave a table reserved for him in the middle of the restaurant during dinner set ups so he is always represented and his table is with everyone.
That's pretty cool.

I don’t believe the team was ever there after Robinson signed with the Dodgers in October 1945. The articles mention that the did Spring Training there during the war years of 1944 and 1945.
The table is a nice gesture but not based in any fact
this article mentions that although Robinson never played there he met with Rickey and signed his first contract at the Inn. So there is the link.

Turns out I have memorabilia from a charity event from the Summer of 1947 showing Jackie, Mel Allen, Larry Goetz, Pee Wee, Sukeforth, Leo Durocher and wife Laraine Day, Joe Hatten, Rex Barney,Jack Benta, I think and Dick Whitman. They were there on a day off from Brooklyn in street clothes and umpiring a game for sports writers and umpires.
Must have been a charity gig or a fun outing. Hotel stationery signed by all in pencil. It is an awesome collectible. I have Photos too. The big field at Bear Mountain looks great in 1947 also.
