Game Worn Mets Jersey Guide

If you collect MLB Jerseys, and especially if you look for them here on eBay, this Ebook will save you untold grief. It will surely pay for itself with your first jersey purchase. This is the current SEVENTH EDITION- released May 1, 2015.

300+ page eBook shows EVERY jersey for the team 1970-2015 (or if the team started after 1970, from its first year through 2015), including all Batting Practice jerseys, Turn Back the Clock jerseys, many team prototypes and oddballs. Every team and commemorative patch is shown, as is team tagging for most years. The Guide shows how to tell game worn jerseys from store bought; and how to tell the real jerseys from the counterfeits. Sorry to say, a great number of MLB jerseys advertised here on eBay that are claimed to be be Authentic are simply not.

What you get:   Price includes a download copy. We will contact you after your purchase to give you instructions for your download. If you want a version that includes all MLB teams, not just this one, visit our site at gamewornguides.com.

The Guide is provided in a PDF format, the world's most common document interchange format. PDFs are viewable on Windows, Mac, iPad and other tablet devices. Not recommended for smartphones with small screens because the file is large and the text will be really small. Also not recommended for non-color tablets like the original Kindle, but only because it is hard to read and not formatted properly for the screen. You'll do a lot of "panning and scanning" on these devices.

After purchase, we will send you instructions for your download. Even if you plan to use it on a tablet, we strongly recommend that you initially download to a PC/Mac or to download to Dropbox (instructions included). This is because the files are very large, which is less than ideal for direct transmission to a tablet device. Once you have downloaded to your Dropbox, desktop/laptop, then transfer the result to your mobile device, either by using a wired connection or when connected to wifi.

(Important Note: Except for the cover shot, the ten tiny sample pages shown here are EXAMPLES and are extracted from the Angels edition. They are included here to show the depth of detail that is representative of each team edition. To see more samples in higher quality visit our website, gamewornguides.com.)

Chapter Overview

There are 10 chapters in the book, plus a 11th chapter containing references, research information and credits.
Chapter 1: Introduction:  Establishes definitions for many terms used throughout the book. It explains significant milestones in the marketing of game worn and non-game worn Authentics from 1970 to 2015, and gives a brief perspective on collecting Authentic and Team-Issued jerseys.
Chapter 2: The Basics- Fabrics, Trim and lettering: Covers jersey construction, the various types of fabrics, trim and piping used, team lettering techniques and materials. Chronicles the adoption of Cool-Base jerseys year by year for each team.  Discussion of player Name On Back (NOB) styles and the use of nameplates, vertical and radially arched NOB, and introducing team patches.
Chapter 3: Game Jersey Manufacturer Tagging:  Shows manufacturer tagging for each authorized supplier to MLB, and explains where this tagging appeared and which manufacturers were authorized to display sleeve logos in specific years.  Shows the differences between retail-sale authentic tagging and team-issued manufacturer tagging. Covers “team tagging” as a general topic,
Chapter 4: MLB Commemorative Uniform Patches- Authorized MLB patches worn by all of MLB, and individual leagues commemorating events  (Jackie Robinson Breaking Barriers, memorial patches, pink/blue ribbons, and Interleague Play patches).  League-wide anniversaries, postseason patches, All-Star game patches, and introduces the topic of individual team commemorative patches.
Chapter 5: Special Event Jerseys: An overview of Turn back the Clock uniforms, Negro League Tribute uniforms, ethnic heritage uniforms,  “Turn Ahead the Clock” from 1998 and 1999,  Jackie Robinson Day, St. Patrick’s Day,  Memorial Day camouflage, Opening day “Champs” jerseys, and other special events marked by individual teams.
Chapter 6: “Fake Authentics”: An explosion of counterfeit authentic retail merchandise has hit from foreign shores, making “suspect” every garment at nearly every outlet. Learn what to look for to avoid being taken by a bargain that might be too good to be true. This chapter offers an expose of what is out there, techniques used to fool unsuspecting buyers, including lists of visual clues to look for to know if what you are buying is authentic or a rip-off.
Chapter 7: “Is it Game Worn? – A Basic Guide to Authenticating game Worn and Team Issued MLB Jerseys”. While MLB has implemented its own excellent system of authenticating game worn merchandise in recent years, for decades this had not been the case. This chapter provides a thoughtful detailed analysis to help collectors determine whether jerseys advertised as Game Worn or Team Issued actually are, based on my many years of experience with game –used and team issued jerseys.  Explains what to look for, suggests questions to ask, and what to be suspicious of.
Chapter 8:  Batting Practice Jerseys: These colorful warm-ups have become the entry point to the hobby for many fans and collectors. Not only are the jerseys less expensive, they are often more lightweight and colorful than game jerseys. This chapter traces the history of the team-issued batting jersey from the first (issued by the 1972 White Sox) to the present lines of Cool-Base engineered jerseys by Majestic.
Chapters 9  Individual Team Chapters, devoted to the specific MLB team shown in the listing title.  The team detail chapter ranges from 50 to 120 pages and contains the following:
  •       Year by Year Summaries- A comprehensive table broken down by year, showing the specific styles of jerseys used by the team, information on player number style, player name on Back presence and style, team patches and commemorative patches and armbands used in each year, as well as the specific team-sourced manufacturer or each year’s on-field jerseys.
  •        Individual pages for each style of Game jersey used in this four-decade period, including home, road, alternate and batting jersey styles.
  •       Individual pages for every Turn Back the Clock and special event game jersey for every game and every team, cataloged by date of on-field use.
  •       Many prototypes, oddball and special events jerseys for each team (like special jerseys worn on St. Patrick’s day, a those worn for a team’s Hispanic Heritage Day) or for on-field jerseys that have significant differences from normal, either intended by the team or not (aka: screw ups!).
  •        A chronological listing and pictures of all commemorative patches used by the team, which sleeve each was sewn upon, and what date each appeared for use.
Chapter 10: Reader Questions and Answers: A selection of questions I am frequently asked and their answers. Examples are: What’s the best way to find the value of a jersey in my collection? Should I get insurance? Who can I get to letter my jerseys?
Chapter 11: Bibliography and Research Summary: Explains how this reference guide was researched, and how each type of research was used, including baseball cards, news photos, collector contributions acknowledgements, web sources and team publications.

Update: Waiting For An At Bat to Finish

From a lot of the reports I am hearing from folks, the Mets have heard the complaints about fans walking down to their seats during at bats. I was talking to a few of the ushers and they told me that they have been told every day during "roll" to make sure that they keep enforcing the no going to seats during at bats. I over heard one fan complaining to an usher about the fact that he had to wait 2 mins during an at bat to get back to his seat. The usher was super courteous to this fan and explained to him why this was being done. The other fans that are seated paid good hard earned money to watch the game and there have been complaints about people getting up and down. A lot of it is the same person in the row getting up from their seats every 10 mins. So as a courtesy to the fans who are seated, you just have to wait for the at bat to finish to go back down to your seat. The other part of this is the Mets don't enforce this until the third inning because people show up late and get mad when they can't get to their seats. If you show update, what's five more minutes standing up top of the stairs then? I am hoping the Mets listen to my suggestion of enforcing the run after the completion of the first inning. I can compromise and not complain about it then.

A lot of the issue stems from the "newer" Mets baseball fans that are coming to hang with friends at a cool event then are actually coming to enjoy the game. They like to go try all the new amenities at Citi field, which I get, but they also need to be taught how to respect the "house" rules when it comes to certain things and the Mets have started to make that happen.

Thanks for listening guys.

Mike Piazza 9/11 Game Used Catchers Helmet to Be Auctioned Off

Mike Piazza 9/11 NYPD Catchers Helmet Being Offered in the Goldin Auctions Premium Live Auction at the National Sports Collector's Convention in Atlantic City on August 4
Goldin Auctions to donate 50% of Buyer's Premium to Tuesday's Children
Item to be Displayed at the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center in July
RUNNEMEDE, N.J. (June 29, 2016) - The catchers helmet with the letters "NYPD" emblazoned upon it and worn by Mike Piazza on September 21, 2001, during the first sporting event held in New York after 9/11, is up for bids in the Goldin Auctions 2016 Premium Live Auction at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City on August 4. The auction, which begins online on July 11, features 100 lots of memorabilia valued at $10,000 or above. Additionally, the corresponding catalog auction will run through August 13 at www.GoldinAuctions.com.

The game marked the first time in which players were allowed to wear a hat or helmet that was not associated with his respective team, thus adding to the significance of this item. Manufactured by American Baseball Cap, this size M helmet has an American Flag sticker on the right side, with the MLB logo sticker and a "PIAZZA" sticker affixed to the back. On the blue brim is another "PIAZZA" sticker with the recently elected Hall of Famer's bold signature in silver marker. The inside of the helmet has two-inch brown padding all around the edges. The highlight of this magnificent helmet is the "NYPD" patch that was glued over the interlocking "NY" on his Mets helmet. He wore this helmet while catching the entire game. This item comes with a Letter of Authenticity from The MeiGray Group (MGA003322) with a detailed photo-match to the exact game as part of the MeiGray LOA. There is also a Steiner hologram on the underside of the brim which certifies the autograph.

"We are very lucky to have the opportunity to share such an important piece of baseball history and at the same time support the worthwhile work of this wonderful organization that supports those affected by the events of September 11," said Ken Goldin, Founder of Goldin Auctions. "Similar to Piazza's jersey from that night, this helmet will forever connect fans to one of the most memorable moments in Mets history. Those who were lucky enough to be there, or view it on television will never forget it."

Prior to being sold at auction, Piazza's catchers helmet will be displayed at the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center in Little Falls, NJ from July 1-30, 2016 to allow fans and collectors the opportunity to see the historic item and relive the memorable moment. Additionally, Goldin Auctions will donate 50% of the buyer's premium from this item to Tuesday's Children, a NY-based 501C3 charity formed in the aftermath of September 11, 2001 that supports first-responders and their families, international youth, families and communities impacted by terrorism and traumatic loss.

Baseball fans will never forget the home run that Piazza hit to give the Mets the lead and the eventual win against Atlanta that night. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Piazza, facing an 0-1 count, hit a towering blast off of Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Steve Karsay. The crowd responded with cheers, some tears and then chants of ... "USA! USA! USA!"
The jersey Piazza wore on that same game was sold by Goldin Auctions for a record $365,000 in May of 2016 and will be displayed on a rotating basis at the 9/11 Memorial, the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and the New York Mets Hall of Fame Museum at Citi Field. Several
museums have also expressed interest in this item if the buyer was to lend it for display.

Blood Drive at Citi Field

**MEDIA ADVISORY***

NYBC Hosts the Mets Summer Blood Drive
Participating donors to receive a pair of Mets tickets to a home game and help replenish the community’s supply during the current blood emergency.

New York, NY (June 28, 2016) – New York Blood Center (NYBC) will host the annual Mets Summer Blood Drive at Citi Field Stadium. Since 2009, the Mets Blood Drives at Citi Field have collected more than 6,000 pints of blood.  All participating blood donors will receive a voucher for a pair of tickets to a select 2016 Mets for select home games in July and August. Mr. Met, the beloved Mets mascot, will greet and cheer for donors.

Currently, the New York metro is in the midst of a blood emergency, as declared by NYBC last week, and the public is urged to donate all blood types to nearby drives, NYBC centers or mobile units, helping to replenish the community’s supply and need of life-saving blood products.

To donate blood or for information on how to organize a blood drive
Please call Toll Free: 1-800-933-2566
Visit:
 www.nybloodcenter.org/blood

When:
June 28, 2016
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Where: Citi Field, Hodges VIP Entrance
Parking Lot G
123-01 Roosevelt Avenue
New York, NY 11368

For Media: 12:00 p.m. – Mr. Met will cheer donors on and is available for photos/video.

More About Blood Donations
The entire donation process takes less than an hour and a single donation can be used to save multiple lives. Donors with O-negative blood type, or “universal donors,” are especially encouraged to donate, as their blood can be used in emergencies. Nearly 2,000 donations are needed each day in New York and New Jersey alone. About one in seven hospital admissions requires a blood transfusion, and with a limited shelf life, supplies must be continually replenished.
If you cannot donate but still wish to participate in bringing crucial blood products to patients in need, please ask someone to donate for you, or consider volunteering at a local blood drive.
Any company, community organization, place of worship, or individual may host a blood drive. Blood donors receive free mini-medical exams on site including information about their temperature, blood pressure and hematocrit level. Eligible donors include those people at least age 16 (parental consent is required for 16-year-olds), who weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, are in good health and meet all Food & Drug Administration and NY or NJ State Department of Health donor criteria. People age 76 or older may donate if they have a doctor’s note on file with New York Blood Center or if they bring one on the day of the blood drive.
About New York Blood Center
Now more than 50 years old, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the country. NYBC’s mission is to serve the 20 million people in the New York metropolitan area — and more broadly, our nation and our world — by alleviating human suffering and preserving human life using our medical expertise.
Each year, NYBC provides approximately one million blood products to nearly 200 hospitals in the Northeast. NYBC also provides a wide array of transfusion-related medical services. NYBC’s National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) at the Howard P. Milstein Cord Blood Center is the home to the world’s largest public cord blood bank, which provides stem cells for transplant in many countries, and a renowned research institute, which — among other milestones — developed the hepatitis B vaccine and innovative blood purification technology. Why d'Anaud Should Keep Number 7

Since fans keep asking me why I think Reyes shotldn't get 7  whenever he hits the big leagues again, I have two reasons... 1 is Reyes left..didn't get traded, so sorry buddy, no claim to it or you. And number 2 is here.....

I wrote this piece for Metspolice.com during the7line outing to Denver last year.

I had a casual chat with Grandpa d'Arnaud for like an hour last year about this and other things related to Travis.

"Last note- the reason Travis changed his number was because he didn’t want to get used to one while he was in the minors due to movement in orgs and always changing numbers. Says he is sticking with 7 because he plans on being in the majors and being a Met for a long time."

No I am not selling this, I was kind of joking about selling the ones I do have though. I have ASG Jerseys that are blank, Met/ Players, and other Players, from 1998-2015, so I don't think I went to break that up. But I did find this on eBay

Yankees Ink Deal with Stubhub

I guess $100 million dollars that the Yankees are going to make will protect the Yankees fan from the fraudulent print at home tickets.

Yeah this whole thing had nothing to do with money at all. 🙄

From the NY Post

The switch will end an annoying anti-fraud ticket policy, instituted before the start of the 2016 season, that banned print-at-home and PDF tickets. The policy prevented fans from buying tickets on StubHub or other secondary ticket markets at the last minute, as they had done in the past.

Jose Reyes: Brooklyn Cyclones

We all know the Mets signed Jose Reyes Saturday to help shore up the offense basically after the Mets got swept at home by the Brave last week. I covered my thoughts on the signing yesterday on the blog, so I'm not going to rehash that again here. I'm just going to do a quick run through of what I saw in Coney Island yesterday.

Before the game Reyes was signing autographs for fans on the field. Fans seemed very happy to have him back in the organization. Some fans were yelling to him in Spanish(couldn't understand it) but I think it was basically welcome back to which Reyes waved, smiled, and gave a thumbs up. This was happening during warm up.

When Reyes was announced in the starting line up, MCU Ballpark was loud with cheers and applause. At the first at bat for Reyes (he led off for the Cyclones), there was the traditional Jose Jose Jose sing song chant. The PA piped in a recording of it too to help along with the crowd.

Reyes during the whole game seemed appreciative of the fans who showed up to welcome him back to NYC.

After the game, I would say about a 100 fans were waiting outside of the ballpark in the parking lot (the wrong entrance btw) for Reyes to come out. They were doing the Jose sing song to try to get him outside.

One of my friends said they saw on snapchat that he was still at MCU until 9/10 pm.

I think that's everything.

How Nimmo Found Out He Was Mets Bound

Jose Reyes and My Two Cents

The Mets as usual are polarizing the fan base with the Jose Reyes signing. Folks are feeling nostalgic over the "old' Jose Reyes. Other folks are upset that the Mets have signed a "wife beater". Me? I hope the Reyes signing does help the Mets win. Hear me out. The Mets are my team and I want them to win. Hopefully Reyes has enough left in his tank to be a quality utility sub and can help the Mets out when players need a break or are hurt. Anything has to be better then de AZA. Reyes does not have my respect as a player any more after what he did in his final game for the Mets to secure a batting title( hey, I have a batting title, my contract asking price just went up), and also how fast he couldn't wait to sign that contract (12:01 am to be exact) with Miami and get out of NY. "But the Mets didnt even offer him a contract!" True. But you don't have your agent make a call to the Mets and go, Hey Wilpons, Jose is about to sign with the Marlins, last chance to get him? So, I don't really want to hear it about the contract not being offered.

Should d'Anaud give up his number 7 for Reyes? Nope. You lost that number when you signed with Miami. 77 looks like a good fit for you Jose.

Now for Jose Reyes the "wife beater". I don't know what happened that night in Hawaii. I am not making excuses for either party involved. I don't know what the marriage situation is or was that night. If Reyes did do what was said that he was to have done he should have been arrested. He was. His wife dropped the charges and the MLB suspended him for 52 games. I am not saying if this was enough or not enough of a suspension, but he served it and also went to counseling. So if he fulfilled all legal and MLB sanctioned obligations then he is allowed to have a second chance. I didn't make up the rules, some of us might not like the rules about this, but those are the rules.

I am going to the Brooklyn Cyclones game today to go see Reyes play. I am probably not going to cheer him when he is announced or gets up to hit. I will probably give applause if he drives in some runs and helps the Cyclones win today.

I want the Mets to win. I want Reyes to be a better person. Maybe both of these things can happen together and not necessarily have to be separate things.

MediaGoon Topps First Pitch Card

I threw out the first pitch before a game last. 5/29/16 to be exact. It was the first pitch before Jim Breuer's "first"pitch. So, I decided to have it immortalized on a topps card.

SNY: Beat The Booth on June 28th and June 30th

Who will win???

SNY, the official television home of the New York Mets, has once again teamed Mets long-time broadcasters Gary Cohen (SNY) and Howie Rose (WOR) together for a fierce head-to-head trivia competition that will test the duo's Amazin' knowledge against two teams of rabid super fans. Hosted by Chris Carlin, Beat the Booth, presented by Citi, features four pressure-packed rounds of Mets trivia reminiscent of the most memorable game shows of all time. Taped at the SNY studios in Manhattan, winners will be crowned Tuesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 30 at 10:30 p.m., following Mets Post Game Live.
The stakes remain high for Gary and Howie as SNY has found the worthiest challengers to take on the dynamic duo in Terrific Trivia, a rapid fire round of far-ranging questions; Flushing Feud, where teams must guess the top six answers to a specific Mets trivia question; Around the Bases, an SNY original game that gives teams a chance to "hit" for a single, double, triple or home run as each base corresponds to an increasingly difficult trivia question; and Ya Gotta Believe, a contest reminiscent of the old "Pyramid" game show where one teammate provides clues to his partner who works to identify the correct answers.
This year's challengers to the throne were handpicked from over 1,000 entries. The four finalists, consisting of two teams of two, are life-long Met fans and New York residents who impressed SNY judges with their deep knowledge of team history, past and present. The debut episode features James Hawkins (26 years old), born and raised in East Northport, Long Island and customer service specialist Andrew Padaetz (50) of Brooklyn, NY, while attorney Adam Yanover (49) from Melville, Long Island and Columbia University grad Anthony Furia (43) from Brooklyn, NY round out the second night's pairing. If either team is able to defeat Gary and Howie, it will walk away with bragging rights and a $5,000 cash prize. However, if Gary and Howie defend their crown, SNY will once again donate the prize money to charities of Gary and Howie's choice.
SNY is the official television home of the New York Mets, Jets and all things New York sports. SNY features unparalleled, exclusive access to the New York Mets with more than 125 live telecasts each season as well as other Emmy Award winning Mets entertainment programming. As the official TV home of the New York Jets, SNY delivers more than 300 hours of exclusive year-round content devoted to Gang Green. SNY is also the official TV home of the UConn Huskies Men's and Women's basketball programs, televising over 450 hours of UConn programming annually, including more than 20 live games. Founded by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, Time Warner and Comcast, SNY is available to viewers throughout New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, and northeastern Pennsylvania, and nationally on DIRECTV, Verizon FiOS, Comcast Cable, and AT&T U-Verse. GLOVE HAS PIAZZA'S CLASSIC 31 ON THE THUMB IN BLACK MARKER AND PIAZZA IN BLACK MARKER NEXT TO RAWLINGS TAG ON THE BACK OF THE GLOVE. ABOVE THE GOLD GLOVE SERIES THERE IS HEB01 WHICH MEANS THAT GLOVE WAS MADE IN JANUARY 1996 AND IS AMERICAN MADE. THIS GLOVE WAS OBTAINED FROM A BATBOY LAST YEAR. IN OUR OPINION THIS IS A GAME USED PIAZZA GLOVE FROM 1996....THANK YOU, KEITH VARI LELANDS"
