Cubs (51-28) vs. Mets (42-37)
METS HOME RUNS AT HOME: New York hit five home runs in tonight's win, tying the franchise record for home runs in a home game (fifth time)...The five Mets home runs are their most in a regular-season game in Citi Field history and it's the Mets first five-homer game at home since June 26, 2000 when New York hit five homers at Shea to defeat Florida, 10-5.
METS HOMERS: With the five home runs tonight, the Mets have 103 home runs this season in 79 games...The Mets did not hit their 103rd home run last season until August 13 vs. Colorado (Game #115)...Tonight's game was the 13th time this season the Mets have hit three or more home runs in a single game.
BACK-TO-BACK HOME RUNS: James Loney and Asdrubal Cabrera went back-to-back to open the second inning..It's the ninth time this season that a pair of Mets have hit back-to-back home runs...The franchise record for back-to-back homers in a season is 13, accomplished in 2000.
METSCELLANEOUS: With tonight's win, New York has won four straight games vs. the NL Central and improved to 13-5 versus the NL Central in 2016...Last season, the Mets were 13-20 versus the NL Central.
BRANDON NIMMO: Connected on a three-run homer in the fifth inning for his first career major league home run a night after collecting his first major league RBI...Finished the game 2-for-5 and recorded his first career multi-hit game...Has now hit in five consecutive games and is batting .333 (7-21) in that stretch.
YOENIS CÉSPEDES: Hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for his 20th home run of the season...Has now hit at least 20 home runs in each of his five seasons in the major leagues and is the 18th player to accomplish the feat...Is batting .400 (12-30) with one double, four home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored in his last nine games at Citi Field...The four home runs have come over his last six games at Citi...In his last 21 games overall, Céspedes is batting .350 (28-80) with three doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored.
JAMES LONEY: Led off the second inning with a solo homer for his fourth home run of the season...Was his second go-ahead home run of the year...Now has four home runs in 29 games with the Mets after hitting four home runs in 104 games last season with Tampa Bay...Finished the game 3-5 to record his third three-hit game of the season...Has now reached base safely in 25 of the 29 games he's played since joining the Mets...Has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games dating to June 11, batting .324 (23-71) with seven doubles, one triple, three home runs and 10 RBI in that stretch...Has two three-RBI games since joining the Mets (the other was June 24 at Atlanta)...Had two, three RBI games in 104 games with Tampa Bay in 2015.
ASDRUBAL CABRERA: Hit a solo home run in the second inning before hitting a two-run homer in the fifth for his fourth career multi-homer game...Was his first multi-homer game since May 6, 2013 vs. Oakland (while playing for Cleveland)...Cabrera is the first Mets shortstop to record a multi-homer game since José Reyes did so on September 27, 2011...Cabrera now has 10 home runs this season...It's the sixth season of his career that he's hit 10 or more home runs.
JACOB deGROM: Pitched 5.0 innings plus two batters and allowed one run, earned, on three hits to earn his fourth win of the season...Struck out seven and walked one...Was his first win since April 30 vs. San Francisco, a streak of 10 starts...The 10 consecutive starts between wins for deGrom was a career-long and his win tonight snapped his career-high tying four-game losing streak...Has now fanned at least six batters in eight straight starts, which is tied with the Angels' Matt Shoemaker for the fourth-longest active streak in the majors.
deGROM IN deCITI: Is now 3-2 with a 2.44 ERA (13 earned runs/48.0 innings) in eight starts at Citi Field this season...For his career, deGrom is 14-9 with a 2.00 ERA (47 earned runs/211.2 innings in 33 career starts at home.
SETH LUGO: Made his major league debut tonight in relief and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings...Recorded his first major league strikeout by fanning Anthony Rizzo to end the eighth inning.
JOSÉ REYES: Went 1-4 with a run scored and one strikeout in Game 1 of a doubleheader with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League...Played all 7.0 innings of Game 1 at third base...Served as the designated hitter in Game 2 of the doubleheader and was 1-2 with a run scored...Is 3-23 with four runs scored and two RBI in five minor league games.
JUAN LAGARES: Was 2-4 with a run scored and one strikeout for Binghamton while playing all 7.0 innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader...Is 6-18 with a triple and two RBI in three rehabilitation games for the BMets...Lagares will report to Citi Field tomorrow to either be activated before tomorrow's game or before Sunday afternoon's game...Lagares is allowed to be with the team because he is currently on the 15-Day Disabled List.
JIM HENDERSON: Began a major league rehabilitation assignment tonight with Binghamton...Started the second game of the doubleheader and pitched 0.2 innings...Allowed three runs, earned, on one hit...Walked two and struck out none.
CUBS HOME RUNS ALLOWED: The five home runs allowed by Cubs pitching are the most they've allowed in a game this season (previous high was four)...The last time Chicago allowed five or more homers in a single game was August 19, 2015 vs. Detroit (also five).
JASON HAMMEL: Pitched 4.0 innings plus three batters and allowed a career-high 10 runs on nine hits...Struck out three and walked two...Allowed five home runs, a career-high...The five home runs allowed by Hammel also matched a Cubs franchise record for most home runs allowed in a single game by a single pitcher...It's the sixth time in Cubs history a single pitcher has allowed five home runs...The last Cubs pitcher to do so was Travis Wood on July 27, 2012 vs. St. Louis.
KRIS BRYANT: Hit a solo homer in the fourth inning for his 23rd home run of the season...Now has six home runs in his last eight games...Bryant entered the day tied for the National League lead in homers...Has homered in back-to-back games for the sixth time this season and the ninth time of his career.
ANTHONY RIZZO: Saw his 11-game hitting streak come to a close by going 0-4...The 11-game hit streak was the second-longest hitting streak of his career.
