Bad knee and all.

ASDRUBAL CABRERA OF THE NEW YORK METS NAMED
NATIONAL LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

New York Mets shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera has been named National League Player of the Week for August 22nd-28th, 2016. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.
In six games last week, Cabrera led the National League with a .545 (12-for-22) batting average, a 1.136 slugging percentage and 25 total bases. The switch-hitting Cabrera also ranked among NL leaders with three home runs (T-3rd), eight RBI (T-6th) and a .583 on-base percentage (2nd).
Cabrera tied a season high (four times) with a three-hit performance to start the week in a 7-4 victory at St. Louis on Tuesday. The 30-year-old veteran posted another multi-hit performance in Thursday’s rubber match with the Cardinals, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in a 10-6 win. Cabrera clubbed a pair of home runs on the way to a 9-4 victory over Philadelphia on Friday for his second multi-homer performance this season (also: 7/1 vs. CHI) and the fifth of his career. The first of his two home runs in the contest was the latter of back-to-back blasts in the first inning. It marked just the second time in franchise history that two Mets hit back-to-back homers to lead off a game (previous: 7/12/07). Cabrera clubbed his 16th home run of the season as part of a three-hit game in a 12-1 win over the Phillies on Saturday. The 16 homers are tied for his second-highest career total, matching his 2012 mark with the Cleveland Indians and behind only his total of 25 in his All-Star 2011 season. This is the third career Player of the Week honor for the two-time All-Star, who has played in parts of 10 Major League seasons with four teams. He was named AL Player of the Week for the week of September 8th-14th, 2008 and April 4th-10th, 2011.
Other noteworthy performances last week included Colorado All-Star Nolan Arenado (.500, 5 R, 12 H, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 1.000 SLG); Arizona catcher Welington Castillo (.333, 6 H, 10 RBI, .458 OBP); Adrian Gonzalez (.321, 4 R, 9 H, 4 HR, 13 RBI, .750 SLG) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Atlanta’s Ender Inciarte (.433, 6 R, 13 H, .500 OBP); versatile Washington rookie Trea Turner (.500, 16 H, 6 R, 4 SB, .500 OBP); Chicago Cubs All-Star Jon Lester (1-0, 0.75 ERA, 14 SO, 12.O IP); and Pittsburgh right-hander Ivan Nova (2-0, 1.20 ERA, 10 SO, 15.0 IP).
