Alternative Baseball

I  received an email about this last night. I always try to push more programs if I can on this blog as much as possible. Even though this takes place in GA in Nov, maybe it reaches someone who it will benefit.

The Alternative Baseball Organization was founded in 2016 by Taylor Duncan, a 20-year old softball coach/player and hardcore baseball enthusiast who himself is on the autism spectrum. Duncan founded the Alternative Baseball Organization to provide an outlet with many different purposes and goals for teens and adults with "disadvantages"... After all, to him, a difficulty, a disorder, is not a disability, it is simply a disadvantage. The purpose of this free-to-join program is to provide a social outlet, as well as to give them a place to compete for fun, and for them to improve their baseball/softball skills. In short, the program has the mindset of an endless pursuit to not only take on new challenges, but to break social and physical barriers. This includes participation in practices with drills tailored to each individual participant by ability (whether it be warm-up stretches, batting practice, fielding drills, baserunning drills, or etc.), real umpired games with each at-bat set for each individual's ability, and on occasion,
special events that would be heavily promoted to the public.

Spring 2016 brought the ABO a very successful inaugural season despite many weeks of rain delays. The Atlanta International Umpires Association jumped on board and volunteered their umpires for all of the games for the first Spring season, and they hope to continue that relationship in the future. Many Minor League teams, companies, advocates, and non-profits have offered donations for auctions, consultancy meetings, and support to help this project become a successful one.
