Mets: Game Notes 5/1/17





FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: The Mets will play their first game at SunTrust Park tonight...Since 2000, the Mets are 8-7 in their first game in a new ballpark...New York posted victories in its very first game in new facilities in Houston (2000), Pittsburgh (2001), Cincinnati (2003), Philadelphia (2004), St. Louis (2006), Detroit (2007), Washington’s Nationals Park (2008) and Minnesota (2013) while losing its first game at San Francisco (2000), Milwaukee (2001), San Diego (2004), Washington’s RFK Stadium (2005), Miami (2012) and falling in its first game at Citi Field and new Yankee Stadium (2009).
WON'T MISS IT: The Mets won't miss Turner Field...New York was 67-106 (.387) all-time at Turner Field...The Mets suffered 13 walk-off losses at Turner Field, including Game Six of the 1999 NLCS...In its final season the Mets went 7-3 at Turner Field, the most single-season wins in club history at that ballpark.
VS. ATLANTA: New York has won 11 of their last 14 games in Atlanta...This is already the third series this year between the two clubs...The Mets took two of three from the Braves in the first season of the year and were swept in a rain-shortened two- game series, April 26-27.
RECENT METS: The Mets had their two-game winning streak snapped yesterday...New York has lost 11 of its last 14 games.
ON THE ROAD: New York is 6-4 on the road this year...New York went 43-38 on the road in 2016.
HOME RUNS: The Mets are tied for third in the majors with 37 home runs with the Yankees...Milwaukee is first (45) and Washington is second (43)...The Mets have hit at least one home run in 19 of their 24 games this year.
ROAD HOMERS: The Mets have hit at least one home run in nine of their 10 road games...The only road game the Mets did not go deep this year was April 16 at Miami...The Mets have 23 road home runs, the second-most in the majors, behind San Diego (25).
APRIL HR RECORD: New York's 37 home runs last month were the most the team has ever hit in April...The previous record was 33 done in 2006 and equaled in 2016.
JAY BRUCE: Hit .292 with seven home runs and 16 RBI in April... The seven homers tied the most he's ever hit in April (also done in 2012) and the 16 RBI were the second-most he's had in April, behind the 17 RBI in 2012...Over his last 10 games, Bruce is batting .316 (12-38) with four doubles, three homers and seven RBI.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES: Travis d'Arnaud has four home runs and 16 RBI this year in 20 games...He had four home runs and 15 RBI in 75 games last season...D'Arnaud leads all major league catchers with 16 RBI this year...According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since 1920, when RBI became an official statistic, d’Arnaud is the first player to exceed his RBI total from the previous year by April 30 of the next season (min. 275 plate appearances).
MICHAEL CONFORTO: Has hit four home runs in his last eight contests...In 13 starts this season, Conforto is batting .326 (16- 49) with six home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored...Conforto has started nine games in the leadoff spot this season and gone 12-for-36 (.333) with five home runs and nine runs scored...He has at least one RBI in three straight games (five total).
JOSÉ REYES: Has hit in six straight games, going 9-23 (.391) with six runs scored, one double, one triple, two home runs and three RBI.
ASDRÚBAL CABRERA: Has reached base safely in 20 of his 23 contests...Cabrera is 7-11 (.636) with eight RBI with RISP, the fifth- highest average in the majors (min. five at-bats).
IT TAKES TWO: New York has six games where a player had a multi-homer game this year (Jay Bruce-2, Yoenis Céspedes-2, Michael Conforto, Travis d'Arnaud and Lucas Duda), the most such games in the majors this year...Céspedes and Duda did it in the same game...The seven players who have had a multi-homer game also leads the majors.
VS. TEHERAN: Julio Teheran is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA (two earned runs/12.1 innings) in two starts vs. the Mets this year...Teheran is 8-3 with a 2.25 ERA (26 earned runs/104.0 innings) in 17 games, 16 starts vs. the Mets during his career.
JEURYS FAMILIA: Earned his first save of the year Saturday at Washington...Familia moved into a tie for fourth place on the Mets all-time saves list with Billy Wagner with 101...Jesse Orosco is third on the list with 107 saves.
HANSEL ROBLES: Is tied for second in the majors with four wins ...Robles leads all major league relievers with four wins...He has tossed 9.2 scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts dating to April 13.
JERRY BLEVINS: Has stranded 14 of 16 inherited runners this year after he was tied for the major league lead stranding 47 runners last year...Blevins is tied for the major league lead in appearances (15) and leads in the majors in stranded runners (14).
WILMER FLORES: Went 3-5 with three runs scored, a double, a home run and two RBI while playing 9.0 innings at first base for St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League vs. Clearwater yesterday...It was his second rehabilitation game...He has been on the 10-Day DL since April 21 with a right knee infection.
BRANDON NIMMO: Went 2-5 with a solo homer as the DH for St. Lucie (A) vs. Clearwater yesterday...Nimmo is 4-18 (.222) with one home run and four RBI in five rehabilitation games.
