"Can we please stop talking about 1986!!!" That is recent sentiment being spouted on twitter brought up by the latest Darryl Strawberry story this week. I get why people are tired of hearing about '86. It was thirty-one years ago. There are quite a bit of Mets fans who weren't alive in when that team won and it's kind of like when I was younger hearing my Dad would listen to CBS 101.1 FM all the time. You heard the same doo wop and Motown songs from the 1950's and 1960's all the time and you tire of it. I still hate that genre of music to this day because of it.
I guess hearing about how great the 86 team was for three decades can wear on a person the same way. But here's the problem. It's not going to go away until the Mets win another World Series. Being in two World Series in the 2000's hasn't done squat to make fans who "won" with the Mets in 1986 forget that team. If anything it has solidified it more. Running the QBC the last couple of years, I have been trying to get away from the 1986 Mets and bring the former players we have had in closer to today. I have seen the fan fatigue with the 1986 team and I totally get it. Do you know how to get rid of the ghost of 1986? I'll tell you.
Win the World Series in 2018.....
