The Resurrection Of Matt Harvey?

Boras wants to resurrect Matt Harvey’s career, eh? That pay day away from Mets that was talked about a few years ago looks to have gone from sure fire to set on fire.

From the NY Post-
“For Harvey, Boras says, that will include stints in the agent’s Southern California sports institute to have “a substantial throwing program for him. The idea is to have a lot of reps to get his fastball command back and get his release point down” after both vanished in his return from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.”

My sister had the same surgery as Harvey three years ago. She had physical therapy and rehab and still suffers with the lingering effects from it. Harvey might never be the same pitcher he was before.

“Harvey is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2018 season. That should provide further motivation to Harvey beyond even resurrecting his career and working on his tattered reputation. His chances to secure a $200 million-plus contract — a possibility not long ago — is gone. But he can position himself for an attractive deal.”

I think one of the best ways to get Matt back to being Matt is just start having him pitch as a reliever. Then keep stretching him out. If you have seen him pitch recently, at the most he has three good innings if you are lucky, then shit hits the fan. Want to resurrect his career? Convert him to a reliever/closer for now.
