Jim Duquette Q and A from the Post

The NY Post had a Q and A with former Mets GM Jim Duquette

Q: Did the Mets exceed your offseason expectations?
A: They actually had one of the better winters when you look at where they spent money. They showed discipline, but they got quality players with [Jay] Bruce, [Anthony] Swarzak, and I liked the [Jason] Vargas signing. So I thought they did a really good job in that area. It’s seemingly never good enough with the fan base, I understand. I know there was a lot of skepticism that they’d spend this kind of money, but they took advantage of the inefficiencies in the market. Even the [Todd] Frazier signing for me, I thought was the perfect fit in their lineup.

MG: But the Mets are cheap right? I can't believe( well, I can believe it) that people freaked out before the winter was even over. You guys need to chill.
Q: Does the fan base unfairly judge this team and its spending?
A: There’s a segment of the fan base that’s skeptical about everything the Mets do and understandably so. But at some point, you have to look at the recent success. Over the past three years, they’ve made the postseason twice and the World Series once. Not many organizations can sit there and say that. Now, they spent the money this offseason and look like they’re going to be there again. I never quite understood that aspect of it. The front office has shown a willingness to be aggressive in the trade market. Ownership has shown a willingness to spend money.

MG: Mets fans, just chill out. The sky isn't perpetually falling. Wait until the chips fall into place..If they don't fall the right way then complain.
