If this was a decade or two ago under George Steinbrenner, it would seem almost inevitable Harvey would end up with the Yankees after being designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday, following the paths of Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, but it’s not quite such a natural fit with the current team.
Starting Sunday, the Mets will have a seven-day window to try to trade the right-hander, who has undergone both Tommy John surgery and a procedure to address thoracic outlet syndrome. Harvey hasn’t been the same since the latter surgery and was demoted to the bullpen last month. In eight appearances with the Mets this season, he had a 7.00 ERA.Read more here.
The Yankees likely won’t touch Harvey at his current price, especially as they remain determined to stay under the luxury tax threshold of $197 million and don’t have a ton of cash to spend the rest of the season.
MG- I don't see him going to the Yankees either. I figure maybe the Rangers because WARTHEN is there or to maybe the Phillies for some reason. Don't ask me why. Just a feeling.
Mets Player's Talk Harvey

“I’ve seen pretty much everything happen in this game,’’ veteran reliever Jerry Blevins told The Post. “It was a move I think the Mets had to make and I think Matt made a move he needed to make. I think Matt needed a fresh start. He has some quality stuff and I think he has a lot of big league time left in him. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery for your career to blossom again. I just hope he doesn’t end up in our division.’’
“I could not imagine him accepting an assignment,’’ he said. “You pitch and play long enough you have earned the right to refuse an assignment. I don’t know of many guys in his shoes who would have accepted it. I think he can get a clean slate somewhere else and is probably looking forward to that.
MG- Bruce. I get your take on it. But what if a team doesn't take a flyer on him. He could be invited to a spring training on a minor league deal next season. He could have easily went to the minors to see what was going on
Blevins being the nice guy the he seems to be was giving the proper answer to the reporters it seems.

“His stuff is not there,” Eiland told The Post before Friday’s 8-7 loss to the Rockies at Citi Field. “I don’t mean to be negative or crude, the stuff was not there. In all my experiences of putting guys in the bullpen, going as far back as Phil Hughes with the Yankees, almost immediately their stuff ticks up. It just didn’t work. … When you are trying to win Major League Baseball games, it’s hard to have a guy rehabbing, it’s not fair to him or the team.’’
“There was not the same arm speed, there was not the same whip that we saw in spring training to getting it through,’’ Eiland told me. “He was really having to work really hard to generate something. The stuff wasn’t there and that’s why we wanted Matt to go down to the minor leagues, take a deep breath, get out of this environment, work in the minors and see if that stuff would come back.’’
“I hope someone takes a shot with him. I like Matt Harvey as a person. I wish him well. He’s still a young man, but he has had a lot of physical issues — Tommy John and TOS — who has come back better and stronger after that, I hope he is the first one, I really do.’’
MG- Matt you have the superstar's personality. Want the spotlight but still can't figure out if you are winning and dominating you can get away with stuff(partying, going out, dating models) like this. You can't if you are sucking.
