Braves (19-11) vs. Mets (17-12)
Series Notes: Atlanta swept the Mets in a three-game series for the first time since September 19-21, 2016 at Citi Field...Atlanta has won 13 of its last 18 games at Citi Field dating to June 17, 2016...New York is 1-5 vs. the Braves this year, it's only losing record vs. a single opponent.
Shutout Notes: The Mets were shut out in back-to-back games for the first time this season and the first time since June 30-July 1, 2015 vs. Chicago-NL...For Atlanta it marks the first time they've tossed back-to-back shutouts since October 2-4, 2015 when they had three consecutive shutouts vs. the Cardinals...Overall, it's the Braves fourth shutout of the season (all have come on the road).
Metscellaneous: The Mets were outscored in the three-game series 21-2 and have not scored a run in their last 18.0 innings dating to the ninth inning of Tuesday night's game...Today's three hits were a tied a season-low (third time) and the Mets have six hits in their last two games.
Day Games: New York fell to 7-3 in day games while Atlanta improved to 9-1 in daytime contests...The Braves’ .900 daytime winning percentage is the best in the majors while their nine wins in day games trail only the Pirates’ 10 day victories.
Asdrúbal Cabrera: Recorded the Mets first hit of the game with a two-out double in the seventh inning.
Jason Vargas: Allowed six runs, earned, on 11 hits in 4.2 innings and suffered his second loss in as many starts...The last Mets starter to allow at least six earned runs in each of his first two starts of the season was Bret Saberhagen in 1992.
Matt Harvey: Allowed five runs, earned, in 2.0 innings out of the bullpen...In four relief appearances this year, Harvey has allowed seven runs, all earned, in 6.0 innings of work (10.50 ERA).
Cody Asche: The Mets have signed infielder Cody Asche to a minor league contract...He will report to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.
Braves Streak: Atlanta has won five in a row and seven of its last eight games dating to April 25...It's the first time Atlanta has won five straight on the road since September 19-23, 2016.
Braves in the First Inning: Atlanta scored three times in the first inning, bringing its season total in the inning to 32 runs, the most first-inning runs in the majors this season.
Multi-Hit Braves: The Braves had six players record multi-hit games for the third time this season, and second time in this series (also, Tuesday at the Mets and March 31 vs. Philadelphia).
Julio Teheran: Picked up his second win of the season after throwing 7.0 shutout innings and allowing two hits with six strikeouts...Pitched at least 7.0 innings while holding his opponent to two or fewer hits for the ninth time in his career...Three of those nine outings have come against the Mets.
More Teheran vs. the Mets: Improved to 9-5 with a 2.32 ERA (35 earned runs/136.0 innings) in 22 games vs. the Mets in his career...Pitched a quality start vs. New York for the 17th time in 21 starts against the Mets... Ronald Acuña Jr.: Hit his second career home run with his solo homer in the fifth inning...Finished the game 3-5 and has reached safely in seven of his first eight games...His 13 hits are tied for the most in Atlanta Braves history (since 1961) through a player’s first eight-career games (Mack Jones had 13 hits in his first eight games in 1961)...Additionally, Acuña Jr. has seven extra-base hits (five doubles, two homers), the most in Atlanta Braves history (1961-present) in a player's first eight games.
Kurt Suzuki: Hit his fifth homer of the season with his two-run homer in the first inning...Now has 24 homers since the beginning of last season, tied for second-most among NL catchers in that time with Yadier Molina...Trails Yasmani Grandal (26)...His five homers are tied for the second-most by an NL catcher this season.
Nick Markakis: Went 3-4 with a homer, three RBI, three runs scored and has hit safely in each of his last 10 games dating to April 23...Is batting .450 (18-40) during the streak...His last hitting streak of at least 10 games was a 10-gamer from April 5-16, 2017...Did not hit his fifth home run last year until his 92nd game (July 18)...Has four three-hit games this season, tied for the most in the NL...Was his third three-RBI game of 2018, tied for the fifth-most in the NL.
