Diamondbacks (25-19) vs. Mets (21-19)

Metscellaneous: The Mets improved to 2-1 on this nine-game homestand and 5-1 on Fridays this season...New York is 9-11 at home this season.

Mets Pitching: Struck out 16 batters and did not walk a batter tonight...It's the second time this season Mets pitching has fanned 16 in a 9.0-inning game (also April 15 vs. Milwaukee)...Additionally, it's the first time Mets pitching has fanned 16 or more batters and not walked a batter since Game 2 of a doubleheader on October 3, 2015 vs. Washington (18 K, 0 BB).

Jacob deGrom: Pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one run, earned, on six hits while racking up a career-high-tying 13 strikeouts...Has started the season 4-0 for the first time in his career...Is the first Mets pitcher to rack up 13 or more strikeouts without issuing a walk since Chris Capuano pulled off the feat, August 26, 2011 vs. Atlanta...It was the ninth such instance of a 13+ K, 0 BB performance in team history (Tom Seaver, twice; Dwight Gooden, twice; Sid Fernandez, twice; David Cone and Capuano are the other eight occurrences)...The last Mets righthander to do so was David Cone on July 13, 1991 vs. San Diego…Was his 52nd start in his career allowing one or no runs...That’s the most such starts since at least 1908 in a pitcher’s first 116 career games.

deGrom’s Scoreless Streak: Held Arizona scoreless through 5.0 innings tonight before surrendering a run in the sixth, stopping his career-long scoreless streak at 24.1 innings (previous career-high was 20.0 innings)…The streak is the longest by a Mets pitcher since Bartolo Colón tossed 31.0 consecutive scoreless innings from August 26-September 10, 2015.

deGrom’s Strikeouts: Tied a career high with 13 strikeouts (third time in regular season, last done April 15, 2017 at Miami)...Recorded at least 10 strikeouts in a game for the third time this season and the 24th time in his career...The 24 double-digit strikeout games are tied for fifth-most by a Met in team history with Jerry Koosman...Sid Fernandez is fourth with 31 double-digit strikeout games...DeGrom recorded his 24th career 10+K game in his 116th career-game...Only Dwight Gooden (33 double-digit strikeout games) had more in his first 116 games at a Met...Overall, deGrom’s 24 double-digit strikeout games are tied for sixth-most in major league history since 1908 through a pitcher’s first 116 career games...See chart below...Eight-straight outs recorded from the third through the sixth innings were strikeouts.

Minor League Signings: The Mets have signed infielder Christian Colón and outfielder Ezequiel Carrera to minor league contracts...Both players will report to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League...Colón played in the majors with the Royals and Marlins from 2014-2017 while Carrera played in the majors with the Indians, Blue Jays, Phillies and Tigers from 2011-2017.
