A reader of mine sent this to the MLB,
Hello MLB,
I love Baseball. It is by far my favorite sport. But I believe the game is now unwatchable because of shifts. There is less action. There are fewer base runners. You should be rewarded when you hit the ball hard. Seeing someone hot a rocket at the 2nd basemen in short right field in to an out ruins the game. It is now a boring game.
Football executives are always updating the rules of their game. Baseball is too slow to change their rules. I believe you should only be allowed to have two fielders on either side of 2nd base and they should have to stay on the dirt part of the infield. Pitchers have enough of an advantage. I am a 61 year old man. If you lose me as a fan because I feel shifts make the game boring who will you have left? The idea of Baseball to me was to hit the ball as hard as you can. Of course that almost always involves pulling the ball. I don't pay ticket money to watch a power hitter try to bunt to beat the shift. Is that the game you want?
Take the game back from these nerdy analytic experts that never played. They have ruined your game.I wish Lee Macphail was alive. These shifts are not in the spirit of the rules and have ruined the game. There are less plays at the plate and at third. Fans want to see action and hits when they attend games. Thanks,Joe S.
What do you guys think about this?
