MediaGoon's Morning Media Musings.

From the NY Post
Robert Gsellman pulled a Matt Harvey, demanding the ball at a time his team needed some Dark Knight bravado. Mickey Callaway played the role of Terry Collins, except without the regret. And Anthony Swarzak made up for the previous night, capping of brilliant evening of Mets pitching.
For one night, the bullpen wasn’t a cause for concern. It actually provided relief, sealing a desperately needed win.
Gsellman did the heavy lifting, working two scoreless innings hours after Callaway said he was going to limit the righty to just one inning, and Swarzak recorded his first save as a Met in a 2-0 victory that denied the Yankees a Subway Series sweep.

MG- Good to see Gsellman wants the ball. Now if the rest of the players can start playing with that kind of tenacity.

Cabrera was removed from the Mets’ 2-0 won over the Yankees in the fourth inning with what the team termed tightness in the left hamstring. The veteran infielder appeared in discomfort running to first base on a grounder in his previous at-bat.
“We are going to see how he comes in [Monday],” manager Mickey Callaway said. “He felt like he could have kept on going, but he didn’t want it to get worse, so we’re going to check on him and make that determination.”

MG- When it comes to lower body injuries and the Mets this worries me. I hope it isn't anything serious.

4. Those able to pardon both those things have a hard time — rightly so — forgetting the only reason Reyes was available for his encore as a Met is because he was a pariah in the sport following a domestic-abuse suspension handed out by MLB in 2016, the details of which remain chilling.
THIS is the icon for which Mets brass want to give a proper send-off?
Here’s what’s offensive: if the Mets are done with Reyes, then be done with him. Release him, as they wisely released Adrian Gonzalez late Sunday night. Offer him a coaching job. Schedule a nice pregame ceremony for him sometime in August. If you are going to use him so sporadically anyway, then cut bait and be done with it.

MG- Just get rid of him already.

From The NY Daily News

After tightness in his right quad caused an early exit from a rehab game Saturday, Yoenis Cespedes will head to Port St. Lucie, where he’ll continue rehab once it’s determined how long he needs to rest before resuming baseball activities. Cespedes was targeting a return to the Mets’ lineup Tuesday in Atlanta.
Cespedes, who was re-evaluated Sunday, has been on the disabled list since May 16, retroactive to May 14, with a strained hip flexor/right quad that he had been trying to play through before he was placed on the DL.

MG- Who plays a game first, Wright or Cesededs?

From The NY Daily News

Michael Conforto’s roster spot is in jeopardy. The struggling slugger, who is coming off season-ending shoulder surgery in 2017, could be demoted. A team source confirmed reports that they are discussing sending Conforto to the minors.
Obviously those plans would hinge on a healthy Yoenis Cespedes. The Mets slugger left a minor-league rehab game with right quad tightness Saturday, so the Mets’ plans to have him return Tuesday in Atlanta seem in jeopardy as well.

MG- It it helps him out, why not?  I also think the Mets should be looking to replace #6 as the hitting coach up in the majors.
