METS SELECT OUTFIELDER JARRED KELENIC IN THE FIRST ROUND OF 2018 FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT
The New York Mets today announced that the club selected outfielder Jarred Kelenic from Waukesha West High School (WI) with the sixth overall pick in the first-round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft.

Kelenic, 18, was listed by Baseball America as the best high school hitter in the draft with the third-best strike-zone discipline by a prep player. He graduated from High School one semester early to focus on the draft.

The lefthanded-swinging Kelenic never played high school baseball, instead played for USA Baseball's national U-18 team. This spring he played on a Wisconsin select travel team.

The 6-1, 196-pounder was the first Wisconsin native ever to be drafted in the Top 10. Kelenic was the only outfielder in high school to be unanimously named to Baseball America's prep first team in a pre-season vote of Major League scouting directors
