Mets Post Game Notes 7/12/18



Mets: New York is 12-33 in its last 45 contests...The Mets are 3-5 on their season-high 11-game homestand, 5-20 in their last 25 home games and 17-31 overall at Citi Field this season.
• The Mets fell to 4-3 vs. the Nationals this season and are 1-3 against the club at Citi Field...Since the start of the 2011 season, the Mets are 20-52 vs. the Nationals at Citi Field.
• The 54 losses by the Mets prior to the All-Star break are their highest total since losing 60 games before the break in 1993.

Asdrúbal Cabrera (2-4, 2B, HR, RBI, 2 R): Pulled the Mets within one with a solo home run in the eighth inning...His 17 home runs before the All-Star break are most by a Mets second baseman before the break in team history.
• Set a career-high with 52 first-half RBI, surpassing his 51 RBI before the break in 2011 with Cleveland...His 17 first-half home runs are also a career-best (14 was his previous best in 2011).
• Is hitting .433 (13-30) with four doubles, three homers, six RBI and nine runs scored in seven games vs. Nationals this year.

Jose Bautista (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB): Singled in a run in the first inning and brought the Mets within a run with a solo homer to lead off the fourth.
• Is 11-23 (.478) in his career vs. Max Scherzer, the second-highest average against Scherzer (min. 15 AB)...Shin-Soo Choo has a .583 (14-24) mark against Scherzer.
• Is hitting .321 (27-84) with a 1.079 OPS in 25 career games vs. Washington.

Steven Matz (6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R/3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K): Tossed his eighth quality start of the season (all have come in his last 13 starts)...Yielded a season-high-tying two homers (fifth time)...Has a 2.91 ERA (24 earned runs/74.1 innings) since the start of May.
• Anthony Rendon’s first home run ended a streak of 26 hitless at-bats with runners on base vs. Matz...Had not allowed a hit with runners on base in either of his previous two starts...The Nationals went 3-11 with runners on base tonight vs. Matz and are hitting .160 (25-130) in his last 13 starts with runners on.
• Allowed two first-inning runs tonight...Has a 5.00 ERA (10 earned runs/18.0 innings) in the opening frame this season...Owns a 3.00 ERA (26 earned runs/78.0 innings) in all subsequent innings.

Kevin Plawecki (2-4, HR, RBI, R): Hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh...Was his first home run since June 24 against the Dodgers.
Chris Beck: Cleared outright waivers and accepted his assignment to Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.
Nationals: The Nationals improved to 52-20 at Citi Field since 2011, including 11-3 in their last 14 games here.
• Are 4-1 in their last five matchups against divisional opponents...Follows a stretch in which the team was 3-8 in their previous 11 games vs. the NL East.
Anthony Rendon (3-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R): Notched his fourth-career multi-homer game (last, July 15 of last season at Cincinnati)...Gave the Nationals a 2-0 lead with a two-run blast in the first inning and added a run with his solo shot in the third...Two of his four career multi-ho- mer games have come against the Mets.
• Has 19 go-ahead RBI this season, tied for sixth-most in the majors...Has 12 game-winning RBI, tied for second-most in the majors. • Four of his 15 home runs have come off lefthanded pitchers...Marks his second-career game with two home runs off lefthanded pitching (also homered twice off the Mets’ Sean Gilmartin on April 30 of last season).
• Has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games with 10 extra-base hits and 13 RBI.

Bryce Harper (1-5, HR, 2 RBI, R): Clubbed a two-run home run in the seventh inning...Has six home runs this season vs. southpaws...Only Freddie Freeman (eight) and Joey Gallo (seven) have more among all lefthanded hitters...Now has the most home runs at Citi Field (12) in Nationals history.
• Since 2015, has hit 88 home runs before the All-Star break...Only Giancarlo Stanton (95) has more first-half homers in that span.
• 12 of his last 16 hits have been for extra bases (eight doubles, four home runs)...Has reached base safely in 20 of his last 23 games...Has a .416 OBP during that stretch.

Max Scherzer (7.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R/3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K): Finished the season’s first half with 12 victories, tied for the most by a Nationals pitcher before the break and the third-most in franchise history...Only Montreal’s Ken Hill (13, 1994) and Charlie Lea (13, 1984) had more pre-All- Star wins.
• Overall, has reached double-digit wins before the break in six-consecutive seasons (most, 13 in 2013 with Detroit)...No other pitcher in the majors has more than three 10-win first-halves in the last six seasons...Has 66 first-half wins since 2013, nine more than any other pitcher.
• Fanned five batters, his fewest at Citi Field since striking out four in his first start here, August 1, 2009...Ended a streak of eight-consec- utive starts at Citi Field with at least nine strikeouts, which was a venue record (no other pitcher has strung together more than three- straight games with at least nine strikeouts at Citi Field).

• Has allowed five home runs in his last two starts and has surrendered multiple homers in consecutive starts for the sixth time in his career (last, April 23-28, 2017).
• Legged out an infield single, his 11th hit of the season, tied for the most hits among all pitchers this season (Colorado’s German Márquez also has 11 hits).
