Mets Roster Moves



Like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.....


FLUSHING, N.Y., July 11, 2018 – The New York Mets today announced they have selected the contract of outfielder Matt den Dekker from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League, recalled RHP Jacob Rhame from Las Vegas and optioned outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski and RHP Drew Gagnon to Las Vegas. Den Dekker will wear #23 and Rhame will wear #35. Both will be active for tonight’s game vs. Philadelphia.

Den Dekker, 30, was batting .286 (65-227) with 11 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 34 RBI and six stolen bases in 63 games with Las Vegas this season. The lefthanded hitter was originally drafted by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and made his major league debut with the Mets on August 29, 2013 against Philadelphia. 

In 80 games with Mets from 2013-2014, den Dekker batted .238 (50-210) with 12 doubles, one home run, 13 RBI and 30 runs scored. Den Dekker was traded to the Nationals for LHP Jerry Blevins on March 30, 2015. The Mets re-signed den Dekker to a minor league contract on February 15, 2018.

He last appeared in the major leagues with Detroit in 2017 and went 1-7 (.143) in four games. In 158 career major league games over parts of five seasons, den Dekker is batting .234 (82-350) with seven home runs, 19 doubles, 12 stolen bases and 29 RBI during stints with the Mets, Nationals and Tigers.

Rhame, 25, joins the Mets for the sixth time this season and most recently served as the 26th man for Monday’s doubleheader. In 14 games with the Mets this year, Rhame is 0-1 with one save and a 6.59 ERA (10 earned runs/13.2 innings). In 23 career major league games, Rhame is 1-2 with one save and a 7.54 ERA (19 earned runs/22.2 innings). In 20 games with Las Vegas this season, Rhame is 1-2 with nine saves and a 3.76 ERA (14 earned runs/26.1 innings).

Kaczmarski appeared in four games with the Mets, going 0-4 with a walk. Gagnon made his major league debut yesterday against the Phillies, allowing six earned runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
