Super Hero Night at the Columbia Fireflies

COLUMBIA, SC - South Carolina native Sanford Greene has designed specialty jerseys for the Fireflies to wear on Superhero Night, which will take place on Saturday, July 7 at Spirit Communications Park. These comic-themed Superhero threads will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefitting HOPE Worldwide. HOPE Worldwide is a non-profit organization that raises money to bring hope and change to the lives of those who are suffering, poor and sick.

"We were thrilled to work with Sanford on this project," said Fireflies' vice president of marketing and public relations Abby Naas. "He has done an incredible job creating something fun and unique for the team that really brings out his talent."

Greene is an illustrator for Marvel comics and has been working with the company for 13 years. The Benedict College graduate grew up in Charleston and now resides in Columbia. He's worked on several projects such as Power Man and Iron Fist, as well as Black Panther, which introduced the first black comic book character by Marvel in 1966. "For the most part, I will print out the digital copy and then go into tracing before its ready for inking," Greene said in a video on Marvel.com. "The first thing I do when I ink, honestly, I take a deep breath. I have a small container of ink I dip the brush into and just the right amount to where I can get fine lines."

Greene will be at Spirit Communications Park for Superhero Night. The game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. against the Charleston RiverDogs.
