No Mets player should wear 5 ever again.

Shannon over at Metspolice has a good spot over there today. He seems to be checked back in since David Wright announced he was playing his last game.

Even if “the next David Wright” comes along, I warn you that maybe Harvey 41 would be a massive mistake, and even deGrom 41 wouldn’t be right.

So, no, nobody wears 5 again.

Oh, and Jeff said as much during the press announcement in September, everyone just glossed over it.

Where do we go from here?

Nowhere for two years. We all have to play along that David hasn’t “retired” so that the insurance pays the Mets who pay the Wilpons.

He makes a good point. I don’t think the Mets will give that number to anyone and it will probably be retired. The organization seems to be slowly realizing that they need to engage with the fans more. I’m not going to say how I know that, but it seems that way.
