Fan experience issues at @Citifield

The post I wrote the other day about @Aramarksports and @Mets possibly needing to train their staff better sparked off some conversations about Citi Field on twitter.... Here's the post so you can catch up on what I wrote. Click here.

That post had a few replies...

Then it went to a subject we have talked about before. STOP USING THE FAMILY BATHROOMS IF YOU AREN'T WITH A FAMILY.

This has got to be worked on. You have security walking around the concourse. No reason why they can't shoo away these adults that are on a "short" line. And for the adults that do this and then complain when an actual family needs to use the bathroom, you guys should realize the folly of your ways..

One of the things that I have complained about in the past seems to have stuck in a positive way. The ushers are still holding folks from walking back down to their seats during an at bat after the third inning. I am pleased that is still being a policy that is being enforced.

Is @Aramarksports/@Mets training their staff right?

As you see with the sign above the trash can the Mets have some concession stands that only take credit cards, which would be fine except it’s still slow. From what I have heard, the staff at these stands are even slower then if they had cash. Not only that, they also on Opening Day didn’t even put a hot dog in the bun into the Nathan’s box that it slides into. Does Aramark under staff their concession stands? From what I have heard in years past from sources, they do. And it also never seems like they train the new hires the right way either.

Saturday night, I went to the Porsche Club with 11 other folks to celebrate my birthday before the game. We had a reservation  for 6:15pm using open table and got there early and they sat us. We all ordered something to drink and we all decided to get the Market Table instead of entrees that includes the Market Table. Btw, the Market table is awesome and is basically one big all you can eat buffet. Has hot dogs, Mac and cheese, pastrami ruebens, pizza, meatballs, and more. So it’s nice and easy and the waiter is not being overworked by the group of us. The Porsche Clun wasn’t super busy that night, which if it was it would have been fine. We didn’t seee our waiter more then twice. One time when he took our drink order and abs at the end of the meal asking if we wanted anything else. I was so annoyed because he never checked on us to see if we needed more drinks, if we wanted to order more food, or if anything was wrong. Not one time in the forty five mins we were sitting there. The bus boys seemed unsure about picking up plates and refilling water and just seemed not well trained in just bussing tables.  It’s not that hard but I can see it being overwhelming if you are new at bussing tables(I’ve done it.) but the waiter had no excuse not to check on the table.

Maybe it’s early in the season and it will get better or maybe this is just a repeat of what has gone on years past with Aramark. I guess we’ll see.

McNeil should be the everyday third baseman for the Mets.

This guy has baseball IQ. He can hit. He can play the field. He should have one position...

@Mets posted a cool Pete Alonso video

This is a pretty cool video.

Mets trying to get Mickey Mania back?

From the N.Y. Post

About that front office … let’s face it, after Callaway’s rocky rookie season, from the botched lineup card in Cincinnati (against Riggleman, then the Reds’ manager) to several eyebrow-raising quotes to other characteristic Mets nonsense, it would’ve been understandable for new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen to walk in and view Callaway as a rapidly expiring carton of milk. Instead, “He’s been tremendous,” Callaway said of Van Wagenen. “There’s tons of communication. He’s involved in everything. It’s been such a great dialogue every day that we’re both learning a ton about each other and about everything. It’s been fun.”

Screwball- The documentary.

Recounting the high-profile doping scandal that rocked Major League Baseball, director Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys) takes us into the surreal Miami underworld that provided performance-enhancing drugs to Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez and other star players. They say South Florida is a sunny place for shady people and this is certainly true of steroid peddler Anthony Bosch and his most notorious client, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. While Bosch's medical credentials may be lacking, his storytelling skills are first rate as he hilariously details the rise and fall of his "health clinic", including mob connections, financial chicanery, his cocaine habit, and Rodriguez's eccentric behavior. The documentary plays like a madcap Floridian crime comedy in the vein of Elmore Leonard or the Coen Brothers while it raises serious questions about the ethics of professional sports. Powerful interests would be happy to let this story slip from memory, but Screwball makes it unforgettable.
I didn't know if I was going to like this doc or not. I didn't like it. I loved it. They recreated what was going on with kid actors and it was hilarious.. It really feels like it needs to be made into a real Hollywood motion picture. This almost has a Get Shorty feel to it... If you haven't watched it yet, you should... Available on iTunes.

“MiLB Project: Refresh” powered by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment begins this month
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. and CHICAGO, Ill., April 23, 2019 — Minor League BaseballTM (MiLBTM) is making a difference in local communities across the country through “MiLB Project: Refresh” in partnership with ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and MiLB teams. As part of the initiative, the two organizations will team up to refurbish 15 youth baseball and softball fields in Minor League Baseball communities.
Fifteen MiLB teams were selected from numerous applications to receive resources to restore baseball and softball fields in need of repair. To complete their projects, participating teams will have use of ECHO outdoor power equipment and receive a stipend to help offset other expenses. Each project will be completed by volunteers from the MiLB team, local ECHO distributors and members of the community.
“‘MiLB Project: Refresh’ will help make playing fields for youth baseball and softball players safer and more accessible, allowing them to enjoy the game they love,” said Courtney Nehls, assistant director of community engagement for Minor League Baseball. “With the help of ECHO, we are giving back to and enhancing our communities, and ensuring that the game of baseball continues to flourish.”
“MiLB Project: Refresh” will impact thousands of baseball and softball players, in 15 states from Florida to Washington. Participating teams, with the help of their volunteers, will be rebuilding pitcher’s mounds, renovating concessions stands, leveling outfields, repairing fences and restoring dugouts, among other upgrades to diamonds and green spaces.
“At ECHO, we are very excited and proud of our partnership with MiLB in giving back to support the youth across the nation. ECHO’s participation in “MiLB Project: Refresh” is more than just improving baseball and softball fields, it’s also about providing important life lessons to future generations. We believe sports teach youth lessons in becoming successful adults. These critical lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, trust and empathy are just a few of the foundational elements that sports help our youth establish. Allowing them to do that in a safe and pleasant environment is key,” said Vice President of Marketing and Product, Wayne Thomsen for ECHO Inc.

Ed Kranepool found a kidney match.

Ed Kranepool seems to have found his kidney match.

From WFAN.com

Mets great Ed Kranepool has reportedly found a kidney donor.
Kranepool, 74, had been searching for a donor for two years. He told Newsday on Monday he is set to undergo a transplant in early May at Stony Brook University Hospital. The Mets are expected to make an official announcement before Monday night's game against the Phillies.
"I'm nervous, but also ecstatic," Kranepool, who has lived with diabetes for much of his life, told Newsday. "It’s very exhilarating, no question about it. It's life-saving. But I am nervous. It's a 3½-hour operation."

This is great news... read more here.

Are the Mets a good or bad team?

The Mets. Where do we begin? The Mets are now 11 and 10 going into a series with the Phillies tonight. Who are the real Mets? Are they the team that supposedly has a strong starting rotation? Are they the team that have a Cy Young Award winner? Well at least one that does t have a barking shoulder? What about their fielding depth?  As fans should we be worried about this season being another one of  those seasons that start off promising and then go to hell or should we keep our chin up and hope for the best? Alonso is a beast.McNeil is hitting the ball. Nimmo is coming around.  Conforto is hitting. Cano not so much. Pitching wise Diaz is solid. Familia is scary. Rest of the bullpen doesn’t seem like it is firing on all cylinders. So what do the Mets have to do to get this team going? Sign another pitcher? Maybe two?

Hopefully they can get it done.

Mets running out of minor league options?

This is really intersting. The Mets are running low on players with minor league options, especially pitchers. So what do the METS do when they run out of options and the pitchers get hurt or just suck?

NY Film Tax Incentive really works....

This is why I keep telling you guys that the NY Film Tax Incentive is important. The business just keeps getting bigger and bringing in more and more jobs. Click here to read what the Tax Incentive is.

From Variety

Netflix plans to open a new production and office facility in Manhattan — which will provide up to $100 million in investments to New York City and result in hundreds of new jobs, according to New York State Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
Netflix’s new corporate offices in the Big Apple will take up 100,000 square feet at 888 Broadway in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. The offices will house 127 new executive employees in NYC that Netflix plans to hire by 2024 — including content acquisition, development, production, legal, publicity and marketing positions — in addition to the company’s 32 current New York-based employees.nder the deal with Netflix, Empire State Development — the state’s economic development agency — has offered up to $4 million in performance-based tax credits over 10 years, which are directly tied to job creation.
To receive the full incentive, Netflix must create the 127 jobs by 2024 at its new executive production office and then retain those new jobs (and their existing 32 office jobs) for another five years.
In addition, Netflix has leased approximately 161,000 square feet to build six sound stages and support spaces at 333 Johnson Ave. in Brooklyn. Those are expected to house thousands of production jobs within five years, according to state officials.
Jason Hariton, Netflix’s director of worldwide studio operations and real estate, said in a statement, “New York has created a film-friendly environment that’s home to some of the best creative and executive talent in the world, and we’re excited to provide a place for them at Netflix with our production hub.”

The New York Mets Extend Partnership With Hospital for Special Surgery To Be The Presenting Partner of the Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic

The New York Mets Extend Partnership With
Hospital for Special Surgery To Be The Presenting Partner of the Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic

Dominican baseball prospects to be treated by
No. 1 ranked hospital in the United States for orthopedics

NEW YORK (April 18, 2019) – The New York Mets have selected Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) as the Presenting Partner of the Mets Academy in the Dominican Republic.

This partnership with the Mets Academy will allow HSS to have full medical integration within the Dominican training facility over the next several years, which will include providing Latin American prospects with access to high quality preventative, surgical, rehabilitative, performance, and consulting services. Additionally, HSS will look to host educational workshops to medical professionals in the Dominican Republic as well as community and charitable events at the facility.

As the Mets Academy’s Presenting Partner, HSS will also receive branding within the training facility, which will be on display during the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, April 22 at 11:30am.

“HSS has been a tremendous partner and supporter of all our health and performance programs for years and in addition to keeping our players healthy, they will join us in all our Dominican Academy community initiatives we participate in,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. “Our Academy is such an important part of our organization that it only makes sense for HSS to provide the same advantages to all our athletes in the Dominican Republic.”

“HSS has a long specialized history in working with high-performing athletes with our clinical expertise and sports medicine research, said David W. Altchek, MD, sports medicine surgeon at HSS and medical director of the Mets. “We have been providing day-to-day coverage for the Mets for more than 25 years, as well as assisting in the decision-making for each player’s course of care throughout the seasons, and now look forward to enabling baseball prospects in this region to maintain long and healthy careers.”

Built in 2008, the Mets Academy is dedicated to developing Latin American baseball prospects; both on and off the field. The training facility is home to 3 full baseball fields, a professional-grade clubhouse, along with full-serve practice facility including batting cages, pitching mounds, san track and swimming pool. Through different educational programs, the Mets not only support players to further refine their baseball techniques, but also provide them with workshops to learn English and opportunities to participate in community initiatives.

Supposed Thor “Pine Tar” Ball for auction

This guy wants a $1000 for the ball that you see in the video where Syndergaard May or may not have had pine tar in his glove. This guys is also delusional btw looking for that kind of money. Well, at least that’s just my opinion.

It pains me to sell this as I am a HUGE Noah Syndergaard fan. Picked this up at Citizens Bank Park Game Used shop before 4/16 game not realizing it was anything other than a Thor Hammer vs Hoskins. Noticed today what I actually purchased, so with a kid in college, figured I see what it was worth. If it doesn't sell will remain a treasured part of my collection for just being a Syndergaard K.

How often do you get the chance to own a genuine piece of history?

MLB authenticated game used baseball.

Noah Syndergaard career strikeout #601 vs, Rhys Hoskins 4/15/19

Possibly more important, this is the actual ball in the video that has caused an uproar for Thor.
(Link to video below)

Caption states 1 out 5th Inning

If you watch the start of the video, you see Thor getting the throw from an infielder out of camera shot.
Why?
Because they threw ball around the horn after Rhys Hoskins's K. (If you pull up video of "Thor's 9 K" from that day on Mets' website, you will see Ramos throw down to 3B after Hoskins's K)
That was the first out of the 5th.
Walking to mound, we see Noah go to glove, then get set to pitch.

As authenticated by MLB, this is the ball that struck out Hoskins, and was also thrown to J.T. Realmuto to start his at bat, proving that this has to be the ball in the video.

Take a look and judge for yourself if there is any foreign substance on the baseball (other than of course Lena Blackburne's mud)

Mets Game Notes 4/17/19

TRANSACTIONS: Today, the Mets recalled RHP Jacob Rhame from Triple-A Syracuse...RHP Drew Gagnon has been optioned to Syracuse.

Another day, another horrible Mets pitching experience.

What the hell is going on with the Mets pitching right now? I know I asked this question yesterday but look at this nonsense. Matz didn’t even get out of the first inning! The Mets don’t just have one pitching coach, they have two! One is the damn manager of the team! How are these pitchers with such high caliber talent shitting the bed the way they are? Is it mechanics? Is it the pitching philosophy? Or is it just a bad luck time where everyone is just sucking all at one time? I was lucky enough to miss most of this game because of work yesterday. Why do the two pitching coaches do to remedy this? Anyone have any ideas?

Ron Darling has surgery

From the NY Post.

PHILADELPHIA — Ron Darling’s surgery to remove a mass in his chest was successful, according to SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen, who made the announcement on the air during the Mets’ 14-3 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday night. Darling is expected to miss at least a month in the booth as he recovers.

I am sure we are all glad Ronnie is doing okay.

Is it the Mets pitching or the managing which sucks right now?

The Mets pitching has just been off the last few games. Is it something  going on with the players themselves? Or is it the managers/coaching? deGrom and. Syndergaard have been off their games these last few starts. The pitching coach says it’s something mechanical that is any easy fix with deGrom. He hasn’t said what’s going on with Thor though. Wheeler looks a little rough too. Matz is Matz but Vargas. He needs to be put in long relief. I think that might help his game a bit.
The relievers are looking a little spotty also. Anyone else feel like Callaway is overusing some folks in the bullpen or is it just me? I had to be up at 2:30 am today for work so I couldn’t catch the whole game but I got to see Gsellman walk in a run. I don’t get get how a former pitching coach can’t manage his pitchers. His hitters seem fine. Just the pitchers. I can’t blame a lot of the pitchers. The problem also stems from some of these weird pitching moves. What ya doing Mickey?

Mets 4/15/19 Game Notes. Gagnon up Guillorme down.

TRANSACTIONS: Today, the Mets recalled RHP Drew Gagnon from Triple-A Syracuse...Infielder Luis Guillorme has been optioned to Syracuse.

MLB, do you guys care that ESPN Sunday Night Baseball just blows?

I can not watch this train wreck  that’s ESPN calls a baseball telecast. They do not focus on the game at all and how can someone who “works” for the Mets call a game from the booth? Hey Hank Aaron come in and we are going to focus on you for a few innings instead of having you on a pre game show to pay proper respect to you and the sport that you were a part of. I am so tired of this nonsense. I started watching it, and shut it off really quickly. And it had nothing to do with the product on the field for a change. God. ESPN you suck so hard.

Mets Game Notes 4/14/19. Sewald up from Triple A

TRANSACTIONS: Today, the Mets recalled RHP Paul Sewald from Triple-A Syracuse...RHP Corey Oswalt has been optioned to Syracuse.

Vargas was just awful yesterday.

I think it is safe to say that Vargas isn’t going to be wearing the ASG Cap this year at the All Star Game. I haven’t see. A pitcher struggle like that in a long ass time. 36 pitches, one third of an inning and numerous runs allowed with bases still loaded. Now, I am not calling for Vargas to be released or to be traded but he can’t start anymore. Maybe move him into a releif role. Then I would have said move Oswalt into that 5th spot and sign Keuchel where you move him up in the rotation and have Matz and Wheeler pitch 4 and 5. Oswalt has a stinker coming in yesterday too. Ooffah.
The Mets bats tried to fight back but it was too much of a lead for them to battle back from twice.

Ron Darling having surgery. Taking leave from SNY.

Ron Darling announces yesterday that he is taking a medical leave absence from SNY because he needs surgery to remove a large mass on his lung. That came out of nowhere and is a huge shock. Fans love Ron Darling in the Booth and as a person. We were lucky to have him at the inaugural QBC (Queensland Baseball Convention) and he was a class act that day. We at the QBC and also themediagoon.com wish Ron a safe surgery and a speedy recovery so he can resume a normal life.

Todd Zeile the former Met who does analysis for SNY and was a guest at QBC 2019 will be filling in for Ron.
