@QBConvention: QBC 2020 has been cancelled. Refunds will happen for tickets that were purchased.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to make this announcement on behalf of the QBC. QBC 2020 has now been canceled. Part of it is due to a scheduling conflict behind the scenes and part of it seems to be a lack of interest in 2020's event.  Ticket sales have been struggling, we don't know if it was because the location, the guests, the pricing, or the Mets Fan Fest. The lack of ticket sales and trying to fix the scheduling conflict would make Dan and myself lose way too much money personally. We are losing a ton of money already from the QBC. We don't want to have to go into our own pockets to cover the loss. The Mets finally realized that the fans wanted a fanfest and would go to one. After QBC 2019 they saw how much fun it was for fans and that it would be a good public relations move to host one. I guess we "won" in trying to get the Mets to do one. It only took seven years though. We have always said we would keep doing the QBC as long as our fellow fans wanted us to. There are a number of you that have supported us since the beginning but it looks likes the majority have spoken. We are not saying that this is the end of the QBC, but we are going to go on hiatus this year and reevaluate what the QBC Brand is going to be going into the future.

There are no sour grapes here. We always wanted what was best for the fans. Refunds will start going out over the next few days. Thank you for understanding.

Again thank you for the years of support. We appreciate you all.

Quick Questions.

Are we getting a refund?

Yes. Sending them out now. We have to do them one by one. This will take a few hours today.

Is this because of the Mets Fan Fest?

We don't know if that is the reason or not for strong starting off sales and then sales trailing off, but we weren't able to have the title sponsor that we have had for the last few years that helped us promote the QBC.

Are you mad at the Mets?

Mad isn't the right word. Our initial intention was to bluff the Mets into doing a fan fest years ago. They told us that it Mets fans don't want to go to them. We proved them wrong. They realized this and started their own. So we "WON" with our original goal. They asked us if we wanted to join them, we negotiated with them, they didn't want to pay us any money to help out, so we said no to them. One of the reasons we got off to a late start with the QBC is because we were trying to work with the Mets and we couldn't pull the trigger on a lot of things earlier. I think there is two words for this to tell you guys the truth. One is Pride. Pride in knowing that we know what Mets Fans want. And Annoyance. Annoyance in the fact that we look forward to this every year now and that we can't hang out with our fellow fans using our vision.

So, even in thus negative time, we wish the Mets and our fellow fans a good time at the Mets Fan Fest.

Here is the official Press Release.

Hey @metspolice, I stuck to my word and didn't renew my half season Mets ticket plan

Well, my seats where released. I have been a plan holder of some sort since Citi Field opened. I was there when there was no Mets stuff adorning the walls and halls of the ballpark. I was there through the changing of the field dimensions. I was there for the quotes of " there isn't a bad seat in the house. The reason you can't see is because of geometry". I was there through the mostly bad teams. I was there for the very few playoff runs. I was there when security started being jerks and made it less fun to go to games. I was there when the staff wouldn't let me leave unless they took a pic of me so I couldn't return to get a bobble head. I was there for the long ass lines because they couldn't didn't realize some games were going to be more crowded than others and not staff right.  I will not be there in my old Section 102 seats anymore. I will be there for most of the 10 games with the 7line. I might pick up a game here or there when I just feel like going to a game. I am no longer there every home weekend. The Mets broke me going to games last year for reasons I have touched on in this blog in the past.

I am keeping my 7lineArmy ticket because a lot of those folks I consider really good friends and we have a great time hanging out with each other and watching the game together and cheering the Mets on.

Want to hear more about my stance on this? Come to the Queens Baseball Convention on Saturday January 18th 2020 at Mulcahy's of Wantagh.

@QBConvention: World Champion Art Shamsky will be signing copies of his book at QBC 2020

1969 Met Art Shamsky will be returning to the QBC this January.  Art will be meeting fans and signing copies of his most recent book "After the Miracle: The Lasting Brotherhood of the '69 Mets" along with his co-writer Erik Sherman.

The inside account of an iconic team in baseball history: the 1969 New York Mets—a consistently last-place team that turned it all around in just one season—told by ’69 Mets outfielder Art Shamsky, Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, and other teammates as they reminisce about what happened then and where they are today.

The New York Mets franchise began in 1962 and the team finished in last place nearly every year. When the 1969 season began, fans weren’t expecting much from “the Lovable Losers.” But as the season progressed, the Mets inched closer to first place and then eventually clinched the National League pennant. They were underdogs against the formidable Baltimore Orioles, but beat them in five games to become world champions. No one had predicted it. In fact, fans could hardly believe it happened. Suddenly they were “the Miracle Mets.”

Playing right field for the ’69 Mets was Art Shamsky, who had stayed in touch with his former teammates over the years. He hoped to get together with star pitcher Tom Seaver (who would win the Cy Young award as the best pitcher in the league in 1969 and go on to become the first Met elected to the Hall of Fame) but Seaver was ailing and could not travel. So, Shamsky organized a visit to Tom Terrific in California, accompanied by the #2 pitcher, Jerry Koosman, outfielder Ron Swoboda, and shortstop Bud Harrelson. Together they recalled the highlights of that amazing season as they reminisced about what changed the Mets’ fortunes in 1969.

With the help of sportswriter Erik Sherman, Shamsky has written After the Miracle for the 1969 Mets. This is a book that every Mets fan—and every baseball fan—must own.
