While David Wright thinks Pete Alonso could be Captain material for the Mets he also is cautious enough not to try to put that on a second year player. What is interesting in this story from the NY Post is that they talk about how if Conforto signed an extension he could be the guy to be a Captain. Honestly, you don’t need a “Captain” in baseball. The Mets did it with Wright to counter what the Bronx did with Jeter even though Wright was the quintessential Captain Material for the Mets.
