METS ACQUIRE RHP ARIEL JURADO
FLUSHING, N.Y., August 5, 2020 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has acquired RHP Ariel Jurado from the Texas Rangers in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations. To make room on the 40-man roster, outfielder Ryan Cordell has been designated for assignment.
Jurado, 24, has appeared in 44 career games (26 starts) and is 12-16 with a 5.85 ERA (115 earned runs/177.0 innings) with 54 walks and 103 strikeouts. In 32 games (18 starts) last season, Jurado went 7-11 with a 5.81 ERA (79 earned runs/122.1 innings) with 36 walks and 81 punchouts.
His best major league start came on June 27, 2019 at Detroit when he hurled 7.0 scoreless innings and allowed six hits and a walk and struck out four. Jurado did not appear in a game for the Rangers this year and was designated for assignment by Texas on July 31.
The right-handed pitcher has been assigned to the team’s Alternate Training Site in Brooklyn.
