FLUSHING, N.Y., February 26, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced the launch of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the New York Mets.
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation is committed to using the platform of the Mets to inspire change and make a lasting impact – on and off the field – by providing needed services and opportunities to children, families, and under-served groups in neighborhoods and communities near Citi Field, the Mets home ballpark. The foundation can be found online at amazinmetsfoundation.org.

Alex Cohen and Mets players unveiled the Foundation’s new name, logo and the Amazin’ Mets Foundation Boys & Girls Club co-branded truck today at Clover Park, the Mets’ Spring Training facility in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Another person from the Mets organization that has been fired hitting coordinator Ryan Ellis. The Mets were aware of the allegations in 2018. I am just shocked that this was not a major story yesterday.
Ellis remained with the team until January of this year despite the organization being aware of the allegations in 2018. The Mets said Ellis was disciplined and initially placed on “probationary status" due to those allegations.
"We immediately commenced a new investigation and terminated the employee on January 22," the Mets said in a statement to The Athletic.
One woman told The Athletic that Ellis made several graphic, sexually explicit comments to her. According to The Athletic's report, the woman kept a journal of her experiences.
The Athletic report also stated that another woman had a "brief sexual relationship" with Ellis in 2017 but ended it. According to the report, "for months afterward, she received persistent, unwanted text messages from Ellis that were sexual in nature." This woman reported these incidents to human resources, sharing at least one of the text messages, according to the report.
The report also said a third woman "told her supervisor that Ellis often made sexually suggestive comments to her and other low-level female employees and that he would call her late in the evening and ask if her boyfriend was home." This woman, according to The Athletic, reported this to human resources.

TEBOW ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT
FLUSHING, N.Y., February 17, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced that outfielder Tim Tebow is retiring from professional baseball.
“It has been a pleasure to have Tim in our organization as he’s been a consummate professional during his four years with the Mets,” said Team President Sandy Alderson. “By reaching the Triple-A level in 2019, he far exceeded expectations when he first entered the system in 2016 and he should be very proud of his accomplishments.”
Tebow, 33, signed with the Mets on September 8, 2016 and participated in the Mets’ instructional league in Port St. Lucie that fall. He hit a home run in his first at-bat in a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on September 28, 2016. In his first professional season, he split the year between Columbia (A) and St. Lucie (A). He homered in his first professional at-bat while playing for the Columbia Fireflies.
In 2018, Tebow again went deep in his first at-bat of the season, this time as a member of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (AA). That summer, he was named to the Eastern League All-Star team and represented the East squad as the designated hitter. In 2019, his final professional season, he appeared in 77 games for the Syracuse Mets (AAA) before a laceration on his left hand ended his season.
In three professional seasons, Tebow slashed .223/.299/.338 with 107 runs scored, 48 doubles, three triples, 18 home runs, 107 RBI and five stolen bases in 287 games.
“I want to thank the Mets, Mr. Alderson, the fans and all my teammates for the chance to be a part of such a great organization,” said Tebow. “I loved every minute of the journey, but at this time I feel called in other directions. I never want to be partially in on anything. I always want to be 100 percent in on whatever I choose. Thank you again for everyone’s support of this awesome journey in baseball, I’ll always cherish my time as a Met. #LGM”

METS ANNOUNCE REVISED 2021 SPRING TRAINING SCHEDULE &
UNVEIL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS AT CLOVER PARK
FLUSHING, N.Y., February 12, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced that their revised 2021 Spring Training Grapefruit League schedule will begin on Monday, March 1.
The Mets will open their 24-game exhibition season against the Marlins in Jupiter on March 1. The first home game at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie will be Tuesday, March 2 vs. Houston. The Mets will play the Marlins, Nationals, Cardinals and Astros six times each.
Single Game presale for Spring Training Season Ticket Holders will be Tuesday, February 16 at 10 am. Single Game presale for New York Mets Season Ticket Holders and St. Lucie Mets Season Ticket Holders will be Thursday, February 18 at 10 am. Single Game tickets for the General Public will go on sale Saturday, February 20 at 10 am. All tickets must be purchased online at mets.com/springtraining.
Ticket prices range from $15-$35. Capacity at Clover Park will be limited to 20% (approximately 1,400 fans) to maintain social distancing. Tickets will be available in pods ranging in size from 1-6 seats. When purchasing a pod of seats, all seats in the designated area must be purchased together. All seating pods will be at least six feet from any other seating pod.
Clover Park will meet MLB, local health department and CDC guidelines to ensure all players and fans are safe. Fans will be required to wear masks that cover their nose and mouth at all times on ballpark property other than when actively eating or drinking at their ticketed seat. Stadium ushers and staff will monitor the crowd and ask all fans to comply with the safety protocols. Hand sanitizer stations and social distancing markers have been installed throughout Clover Park and staff will continually disinfect and sanitize restrooms and common areas.
Concession stands will be open with health and safely protocols strictly enforced. Every location will have a touchless payment option and the Mets encourage fans to use credit or debit cards at all locations.

MLB ANNOUNCES MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAMS
Teams Will Be Part of New Model to Better Serve Fans, Players and Clubs
Minor Leagues to Include Player Salary Increases, Modernized Facility Standards and Reduced Travel
MLB Preserves High-Level Baseball in Communities, Expands MLB-Supported Baseball
Major League Baseball today announced that all 120 Minor League Clubs offered an invitation to become Professional Development League (“PDL”) license holders have officially agreed to accept. These teams, selected as partners by Major League Clubs and being announced in full today, will provide both facilities and communities that are essential to the development of the next generation of big-league stars.
Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. said: “We are excited to unveil this new model, which not only provides a pipeline to the Majors, but continues the Minor Leagues’ tradition of entertaining millions of families in hundreds of communities. In modernizing our Minor League system, we prioritized the qualities that make the Minor Leagues such an integral part of our game while strengthening how we develop professional athletes on and off the field. We look forward to demonstrating the best of our game throughout local communities, supporting all those who are working hard to grow the sport, and sharing unrivaled technology and resources with minor league teams and players.”
As a part of MLB’s realignment, many Minor League affiliates will be in significantly closer geographic proximity to the Major League Clubs with which they are associated. On average, Major League Clubs will now be over 200 miles closer to their Triple-A affiliates. By creating better geographical synergy between a Major League Club and its affiliates, more fans will be able to watch an organization’s players progress in their careers from the Minor Leagues to the big leagues in their home region.
Each MLB Club will provide Minor League players and staffs to their four affiliates – one at each of the Triple-A, Double-A, High-A and Low-A levels. Minor League Clubs will receive PDL licenses from MLB that entitle them to operate in the Professional Development Leagues, ensuring a new set of standards in terms of facilities and player working conditions. The licenses will create many improvements to the experience and lifestyle of Minor League players, such as:
This announcement follows other recent announcements made by Major League Baseball detailing elements of its new comprehensive player development system. The new system will better serve fans, players and Clubs throughout the United States and Canada; preserve high-level, sustainable baseball in nearly every community where the game has historically been played; and position the sport for growth in future years. In combination, the integrated player development system now includes 179 teams across 17 leagues in 43 states and four provinces. Including the Arizona and Gulf Coast Leagues, there are 209 teams across 19 leagues in 44 states and four provinces.
More teams will be joining the broader MLB player development system and other baseball leagues in the coming weeks and months, further enhancing the landscape for fans to continue to cheer on future stars. MLB has nearly completed its work towards ensuring baseball’s presence in almost all of the previous affiliated communities.
FLUSHING, N.Y., February 11, 2021 – The New York Mets announced today that the team has signed infielder Jonathan Villar to a one-year contract. In a corresponding move, RHP Brad Brach has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Villar, 29, ranks fourth in the majors with 218 stolen bases since 2013. He led the major leagues with a career-high 62 steals in 2016 with Milwaukee and has accumulated 35-or-more stolen bases in a season three times (2016, 2018 and 2019). Villar and Dee Strange-Gordon are the only active players who have stolen at least 60 bases in one season. From 2016-2019, Villar produced four consecutive seasons of 10-or-more home runs and at least 20 stolen bases. He and Trea Turner were the only two players to do so over that stretch.
The 6-foot, 233-pound infielder appeared in all 162 of Baltimore’s games in 2019 and set career-best marks with 111 runs scored, 176 hits, five triples, 24 home runs and 73 RBI. He spent the first half of the 2020 season with Miami before being traded to Toronto at the trade deadline. In 52 total games, he slashed .232/.301/.292 with five doubles, two homers, 15 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
The La Vega, Dominican Republic native is one of just two active players, along with his fellow countryman Starlin Castro, who has started at least 300 games at both shortstop and second base since his rookie season in 2013. He has also seen action at third base (54 games), center field (10 games) and left field (five games).
The switch-hitting Villar was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008 before being dealt to Houston in a swap for RHP Roy Oswalt in 2010. He debuted with the Astros in 2013 and has played eight major league seasons with Houston (2013-2015), Milwaukee (2016-2018), Baltimore (2018-2019), Miami (2020) and Toronto (2020).
METS ACQUIRE KHALIL LEE FROM KANSAS CITY IN THREE-TEAM TRADE
FLUSHING, N.Y., February 10, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired outfielder Khalil Lee from Kansas City in a three-team trade. The Mets will send RHP Josh Winckowski and a player-to-be-named-later to the Boston Red Sox. To make room on the 40-man roster, catcher Ali Sánchez has been designated for assignment.
Lee, 22, was ranked Kansas City’s eighth-best prospect in 2020 according to MLB.com. In 2019, he slashed .264/.363/.372 with 53 stolen bases, the third-most in the minor leagues with Northwest Arkansas (AA). The 5-10, 170-pounder was Kansas City’s organizational Player of the Year and was a Texas League All-Star. He led the league with 65 walks, scored 74 runs, collected 21 doubles, eight homers and had 51 RBI in 129 games in 2019.
Lee, the 103rd-overall pick in the 2016 First Year Player Draft, has slashed .256/.366/.409 with 72 doubles, 19 triples, 37 homers, 192 RBI and 97 stolen bases in 399 career minor league games.
Lee was Virginia’s Gatorade High School Player of the Year Award recipient as a senior after hitting .471 with six homers.
Winckowski, 22, was acquired by the Mets in theJanuary 27 trade that sent LHP Steven Matz to the Blue Jays.

When the sports world came to a pause last spring, Jay Deutsch, the CEO of Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (better known as BDA), said his company, which produces the majority of promotional bobbleheads for MLB teams, needed to pivot from distribution to storage. He estimates that about four million bobbleheads planned for giveaways last year are currently sitting in warehouses.
Teams plan promotions months in advance because of the production schedule required. Deutsch said BDA produced items scheduled through May 2020 (plus some for further out, including Williams' stormtrooper bobblehead) before the pandemic.
