METS ACQUIRE OF BILLY MCKINNEY FROM MILWAUKEE
FLUSHING, N.Y., May 25, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced they have acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league left-handed pitcher Pedro Quintana. RHP Jordan Yamamoto has been transferred to the 60-Day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.
McKinney has appeared in 40 games for the Brewers this season and is batting .207/.260/.359 with nine runs, three doubles, a triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base. He has played 20 games in the outfield and nine games at first base this season.
In 84 games as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019, the Dallas, TX native collected 12 home runs, 14 doubles and 28 RBI.
The 26-year-old was originally drafted in the first round (24th overall) by the Oakland Athletics in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in parts of four seasons with the New York Yankees (2018), Blue Jays (2019-2020) and the Brewers (2021). He is a career .226/.285/.422 hitter with 61 runs scored, 24 doubles, two triples, 21 home runs and 47 RBI in 164 major league games.
Quintana, 17, was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on January 15, 2021.
