METS TO GIVE BACK TO ESSENTIAL WORKERS

METS TO GIVE BACK TO ESSENTIAL WORKERS

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 7, 2021 – This year, Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Community Initiative will honor and show appreciation to all frontline and essential workers by distributing $1.5 million worth of tickets league-wide to the local heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mets first baseman Pete Alonso along with his fiancĂ©e Haley Walsh will take part in the initiative through their Homers 4 Heroes Foundation which aims to support and recognize the everyday heroes of the pandemic.

Each year, the Mets present the Community Ticket Program, which provides tickets to individuals and community groups who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a baseball game. For the 2021 season, tickets will be offered to those on the front lines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.  The invitations will include, but are not limited to, healthcare personnel, first responders, educational staff and public transport workers.  Since 2017, the Mets have donated nearly 100,000 tickets to charitable organizations and community groups through MLB’s Commissioner’s Community Initiative.

“After such a trying year for many of us, we are grateful to be able to give back in a small way to those on the front lines of the pandemic,” said Alex Cohen, President of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation. “Inviting frontline workers to spend a day at Citi Field is just a small way to show our appreciation for all they have done to help keep our communities safe throughout this past year.”
