Are the Mets taking care of their MiLB players?

I know that many MLB organizations are not paying a real living wage to the MiLB players. It kind of reminds of professional wrestlers who are considered "Independent Contractors." They have to pay for their hotel rooms, rental cars, wrestling gears, etc. MLB owners should be paying for the hotels, meals, and travel for the MiLB players that play for their teams.  So if this tweet below is true(I don't know how true it is) from Advocates for Minor Leaguers, the MLB owners need to do better.

Black Jerseys Yay or Nay from Virtual @QBConvention 2021

Mediagoon and Jon Salazar of @MarvelMMarathon discuss if the black jerseys should return. This basically sums up what I think about the return of the black jerseys from the Virtual QBC.

New York Mets True Classic Gradient Snapback Hat

This New York Mets True Classic Gradient hat from Fanatics Branded features a two-tone design and graphics that will set it apart from your typical ballpark cap. The snapback closure ensures a fully customizable fit, giving you a new go-to headwear option that any New York Mets supporter would be proud to show off.

There seems to be a love of late 70s early 80's fonts/designs coming back. This makes me think of CBS's SPECIAL  floating graphic from back int he day when tv shows were pre empted

$100 for Mets shorts? Geez.

Go all out in showing off your New York Mets loyalty in patriotic fashion with these Red, White and Blue shorts from Pro Standard. They feature multiple types of New York Mets graphics highlighted by the eye-catching pattern. An adjustable waistband also allows you to customize the fit, while several pockets keep items easily accessible.

Go all out overspending for shorts. $100 bucks? Come on. I think they are kinda cool but more like $35 cool.

Steve Cohen tweets about Mets Black Jerseys

Steve Cohen is stirring the pot about bringing back the Black Mets Jerseys. Some fans thinking this tweet means they are coming back tonight while The NY POST is saying that they Mets have to wait on league approval to wear them. The reason the Mets have to wait on league approval is because the jerseys aren't in the style guide for this year so they cannot be in the rotation. However, jerseys can be used as throwback/one off game jerseys that need league permission to be used. Folks are speculating for the 9/11 game that the Mets night wear the black jerseys but I think they might wear the snow whites that they wore when the Mets came back for the first game at Shea after 9/11.

I think this might this tweet is Steve saying that the ASG Jerseys are horrible. What ASG jerseys you ask? Click here.

All I know is we are one day closer to the black jerseys

From the NY POST

Cohen’s plan is to bring back, on some basis, the alternate black jerseys the Mets first unveiled in the 1990s and stopped wearing in recent years. Last weekend he said MLB still had to approve the black jerseys.

MLB All-Star Game Authentic Jerseys have been released for sale

The Replica is $139.99

The Authentic is friction' $400 bucks. $400 dollars for a freakin' one time use jersey. How much is one with a name on it going to cost? This is ridiculous and the jerseys are not good looking at all. The only thing I like is that it is a pullover. The lettering the logos all look like crap;./

Here are the other teams.

They are using these in game and not just as BP jerseys? Yikes!

Mets keep pushing Pete "One Home Run at Citi Field" Alonso' HR Derby Appearance

The Mets keep pushing Pete Alonso for the All-Star Game and now that he is in the HR Derby they are pushing his as a HR threat. Hopefully Colorado doesn't make him feel like he is at Citi Field where he has hit a total of one HR so far this season.

From the Stretch Super Patty Melt

I tried out The Super Patty Melt from the From the Stretch kiosk last night. From the Stretch makes grilled cheese with tomato soup and also this concoction that shouldn't work but does.

Its a Pat LaFrieda patty with gruyere cheese between two "pinwheel" style slices of bread that are filled with pimento, provolone, and american cheese. The one thing I wish that was on this was some caramelized sweet onions which would have made this burger go over the top in taste.  From the Stretch is located over by where the World's Fare is (World's Fare which usually has sushi, gluten free, and Mama's of Corona but was still closed last night). You should give it a shot next time you are at Citi Field.

Mets to change anti-harassment policies.

The Mets have had their share of workplace harassment scandals over the years. Steve Cohen promised an outside look at what was going on with the organization he purchased and wants to clean it up. They also are looking for replacements for general counsel David Cohen and SVP Holly Lindvall.

 From the Athletic.com

The New York Mets plan to revamp their procedures for employees reporting legal and human resources complaints, as well as expand their anti-harassment policies, following an investigation by an outside law firm into workplace practices.

On Monday, Mets owner Steve Cohen announced the changes to team employees in an email obtained by The Athletic. Cohen's announcement comes after law firm WilmerHale conducted an investigation and spoke with 82 current and former team employees.

Among the changes, the club plans to "expand the scope of our anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policy to emphasize the overarching value of a safe and respectful workplace" and change how employees report concerns and receive support during any investigations. The Mets will ensure their legal and human resources departments "respond to complaints in a timely fashion, provide complainants with status updates and have close-out conversations with complainants and subjects at the conclusion of investigations."

Funny Captions for Mets/Alonso All-Star Game Propaganda Video

The Mets put out a propaganda video to vote for Pete Alonso with the "Donnie Diesel". The whole Donnie Diesel thing still doesn't sit well with me because of how it coincided with Chili Davis being fired as hitting coach and also the flipping off graphic for that tee that Alonso is pushing. To be fair, I didn't like the Mr Met flipping off tee shirt that Barstool made either. The funny thing about this video to me though is the captions that are running over the video. Also, Mets fans debating if Alonso is an All-Star this year or not. The correct answer is not.

Ground was broke for Willets Point Development Project. I had no clue. Did you?

NYC EDC

This seems to have been done pretty quietly again. I didn't hear anything about this on the news or in any of the bigger newspapers. Unless I totally missed it. Metspolice.com and myself have been trying to keep up with this and my news alerts didn't go off. I had to search for this. I also know a lot of you keep tweeting at Steve Cohen to develop across 126th street. Hate to break it to you but the development rights didn't transfer over to him from the Wilpons with the sale of the team. Sterling Equities are still part of the development partners.

 From AMNY

The city on Wednesday, June 16, officially broke ground on the environmental cleanup needed for the Willets Point redevelopment in Queens, where developers will eventually build 1,100 below-market-rate housing units and a school atop old industrial land next to Citi Field.

“For 1,100 families there’s going to be a home — 1,100 families are going to have a home here in Queens that they can depend on,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said at the ground-breaking ceremony. “It means a family that for decades know a place to lay their head, a place to bring up their children, they’ll have peace, they’ll have security.”

“I’ve been looking out at this acreage for many many years, only hoping that there’d be a day like this that we could all celebrate the true start of this project,” said Sterling Equities partner Richard Browne.

Construction on the residential buildings and the schools won’t start until 2024, as the developers will have to first clean up the toxic soil from decades of pollution from the auto body shops that dominate the corner of land at the mouth of the Flushing Creek, starting this summer.

Construction workers will then build new streets, sidewalks and utilities, such as a sewage system, which is slated to happen in 2022. EDC spokeswoman Shavone Williams declined to provide the cost of the project.

Under the agreement with EDC, out of the 1,100 homes, 220 of the units will be earmarked for seniors and another 99 will be for families who were formerly homeless transitioning out of the shelter system.

The remaining 781 units will be set aside for six different income groups ranging from 30-130% of the federally-designated Area Median Income (AMI), the Astoria Post reported. About 55% of units, including those for seniors, will be for those making less than 60 percent of the AMI, which in 2021 reflects a family of three making $64,440 a year.

So there will be affordable housing units available but it will only 319 out of the 1100 units. I hope it works out for people who need fairer priced housing.

Also phase one isn't even directly across from Citi Field. It is more off of Roosevelt Ave than it is 126th street. What's going on with the other lots?

I noticed Sterling Equities didn't have a Wilpon quoted in this but a partner Richard Browne who said he kept looking out at the acreage for years. Does that mean he had an office in Citi Field?
