Mets Players "Booing" Mets Fans and the fallout.

From the NY DAILY NEWS

“In my case, they [the fans] gotta be better. I play for the fans and I love the fans. But if they’re going to do that, they’re just putting more pressure on the team. That’s not what we want.”-Báez

Read More here.

No Javy. You have to be better. You get paid millions to play a game. You get pressure in your job. That's part of your job. Maybe you are upset because this is a walk year for you and your numbers aren't what you hoped that they were going to be and thats the "pressure" you are feeling. Stop blaming the fans.

And the Mets responded with this.

The Mets have issued a statement.  It reads….

In a post-game press conference today, Javy Baez stated that his “thumbs down” gesture during the game was a message to fans who recently have booed him and other players for poor performance. These comments, and any gestures by him or other players with a similar intent, are totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Mets fans are understandably frustrated over the team’s recent performance. The players and the organization are equally frustrated, but fans at Citi Field have every right to express their own disappointment. Booing is every fan’s right.

The Mets will not tolerate any player gesture that is unprofessional in its meaning or is directed in a negative way toward our fans. I will be meeting with our players and staff to convey this message directly.

Mets fans are loyal, passionate, knowledgeable and more than willing to express themselves. We love them for every one of these qualities.

-Hat tip to Metspolice.com

I am glad the Mets put out a statement like this but here is my problem with it. Folks were saying that my cousin Shannon over at Metspolice and myself were being ridiculous because of us not being fans of the LFGM and Alonso's shirt he is selling with his fictitious coach flipping off whoever he is flipping off. That is the culture that is being brought to the forefront of the players on this team. What kind of attitude are the players going to have on this team going forward? Báez hasn't been here long enough to even place his order at Starbucks for his cup of coffee to be upset by the booing.

Lindor is going to be in for a rough long contract if he doesn't turn it around starting next season. Can you imagine the boos he is going to be getting for the length of the contract if he doesn't live up to it after this?

Pete Alonso. You think of yourself as one of the leaders on this team. What do you have to say to your teammates? What do you say to your fans?

I personally don't like when fans boo. I especially don't like it when you know the player is busting their ass and playing hard but can't catch a break when they are playing. I do get it when fans want to boo a player who looks like he doesn't care about how he plays and is collecting his paycheck and doesn't try to make plays that are easy. No hustle players I totally get folks wanting to boo. I won't do it myself but they have a right to do it fit something like this is going down.

Mets fans can never have an easy season.

Jerry Koosman Number covered for tomorrow's ceremony

What are fans saying about the Mets Black Jerseys now?

A lot of folks can't figure out why I was/am against the black jerseys. I have said that I was sick of the Mets wearing them so much over the timespan that they were in the rotation, black wasn't a Mets color, and the fact that with the exception of the Mets getting to the World Series in 2000(which they lost) the Mets never won anything in those Jerseys. They also make me think of the Wilpons and their money grabs and the collapses of 2007/2008. It just has a losing feel to me and a dark era over the Mets. I even felt that once the Black Jerseys came back that the bad juju would be back for the Mets. Now, I am not saying this is what happened but it is a real coincidence. Fans- " I can't wait for the black jerseys". Let's see what fans are saying now.

In all transparency, I bought Darren's T7L black Mets jersey. It was a fun mesh of 1986 and the black jerseys. I think I might have worn it 2-3 times out to a bar or a friend's house just to get double takes from friends.

Yes Sam. The Mets are 11 games under and also 0-2 wearing them.

Welcome to my way of thinking Brian.

0-2 Jake. 0-2.

Seems familiar.

Orange and Blue John? Not black? Interesting.

This made me really laugh out loud.

They never should have came back.

I had a feeling this would happen.

I'll end with this one. There were one or two folks int he thread being positive about a win tonight but no one was positive about the jerseys. We have folks anti black jerseys now. We have folks calling for the head of Rojas. We have folks falling out of love with Uncle Steve. The Mets are do for a reboot season next year and hopefully they don't come back with cousins Coy and Vance.

Mediagoon looking to get rid of some stuff.

On Saturday, before the Mets game I will be in the Marina Parking lot with some memorabilia. I figured this might be the best way to get rid of some things. You guys can peruse what I have and if you want it we can work for it. Signed balls, game used balls, game used Major and Minor League jersey, game model baseball glove and some other things. If you are tailgating and want to stop by I am sure you can find me pretty easily.

Who’s to blame for this season? Rojas? Ownership? Players?Fans?

What is the cause of the way the Mets have played since the end of July? Is it the manager? The coaching staff? The analytics department? The front office? Donnie Stephenson? The players? The owner? The black jerseys? The fans not being positive enough?

Let’s just get this out of the way because I know you guys are expecting it. The black jerseys. You know my stance on them and that they aren’t the uniforms that I think of when it comes to winning anything. I think of them and I think of collapses and firing of Willie Randolph.

The manager. I don’t get what Rojas is thinking sometimes with the moves he makes. Is he a manager who relies mostly on analytics or does he go with his gut or does he do both. I can’t tell what he relies on. If Rojas does get fired, I want to see Edgardo Alfonzo get a shot at managing the Mets. If not Fonzie, I would hope they check out Tony DeFrancesco out for the job. Yes, he’s still with the organization.

The coaching staff. Mets fire Chili Davis and bring in Q from James Bond but has he done anything to help the team get better hiring? Doesn’t seem like it. And the whole Donnie Stephenson thing is the only thing worse than the Syndergaard and Mr Met Twitter feud that has finally gone away.

Front office. A lot of turmoil in the first couple of days with the front office and the new ownership with having to get rid of the teams supposed wunderkind of a GM because of sexual harassment allegations. And that threw the team in flux and I don’t feel like they ever really recovered from that upheaval at first.

The owner. Yes, Steve Cohen has money. Yes, he can outspend everyone if he wants to. But why would you overspend right know when this isn’t a World Series caliber team and you have tax implications that will hit and hit hard.

Fans. We Mets fans are positive to a fault until it’s time not to be positive. We’ve been through most of this before. We can see the signs.

One more. The Medical Staff and training staff. Can you guys figure out how to keep these guys healthy? Someone. Maybe Steve Cohen can pay top money for a better staff or staffs? Maybe donate a wing to to the Hospital for Special Surgery or something?

I’ll be at the game Saturday with The 7 Line Army. No idea if I’ll be there in time for the Koosman Ceremony though. Don’t feel like spending extra time in the stadium before a game because the way the Mets play now when I go to a game they end up in extra innings.

I apologize to @thedrewpowell for introducing him to Mets Fandom

I would like to apologize to my buddy Drew for introducing him to being a Mets fan while he was working on Gotham here in NYC.  Drew and his family didn't bring a change of luck to the team last night as the Mets lost yet again but I know that he and his son will be there again today and hopefully this will be a win today!

Man dies at Citi Field

I opened up my NY POST app today to see how the Mets did last night and saw thats someone fell/jumped last night at Citi Field during the Dead and Company Concert.

From the NY Post.

The fan, who was in his 40s, plunged some 30 to 50 feet during intermission at around 9 p.m., and landed on concrete, cops said. He was taken to NewYork–Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Police sources said the man was possibly under the influence when he took the fatal fall from the fifth floor.

“The people are inebriated, the people are intoxicated,” a security guard, who declined to give his name, told The Post.

Cops had taped off an area next to the right field entrance.

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 20, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced the club has claimed RHP Heath Hembree off waivers from Cincinnati. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Jacob deGrom has been transferred to the 60-Day Injured List. DeGrom is eligible to return from the IL on September 13 and his status and timeline remain unchanged.

Hembree, 32, is 2-7 with a 6.38 ERA (30 earned runs/42.1 innings) and eight saves in 45 games this season with Cincinnati. He has racked up 68 strikeouts in 42.1 innings, good for a 14.46 K/9 ratio that ranks sixth among all relievers. He was designated for assignment by the Reds on August 17.

The 6-4, 220-pounder is a nine-year major league veteran and has appeared in 316 career games, all in relief. He owns a lifetime 18-12 record with a 4.23 ERA and has pitched in the majors for San Francisco (2013), Boston (2014-2020) and Philadelphia (2020) in addition to Cincinnati this season.

WWE and MLB to create MLB inspired WWE Championship Titles

Major League Baseball and WWE announced today a multi-year partnership to create MLB-inspired WWE Championship replica titles and accessories featuring the logos of all 30 MLB clubs from around North America. The new line of merchandise launches in 2022, marking the first time these items have been available for fans. This is the first official licensing agreement for WWE Championship replica titles between WWE and one of the major U.S. sports leagues.

As part of the agreement, MLB and WWE will collaborate to design and manufacture team-branded replica titles as well as replica titles that celebrate some of the league’s Jewel Events such as the World Series, All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. Additionally, the two sides will create custom side plates and unique Lucha Libre masks. “At MLB we are constantly looking to serve our fans with the most unique products possible so that they can support their favorite Clubs and players in the ways they want,” said Denis Nolan, MLB Senior Vice President, Global Consumer Products. “We often see baseball fans and players bringing their MLB and WWE fandom together at games and online, so this is a natural development for us to work together and offer the highest quality, official co-branded items for fans around the world.” “We’ve been continually amazed by the reaction to custom WWE Championship title belts, and we’re excited this partnership will allow us to make them widely available to fans,” said Kevin Moore, WWE Senior Vice President, Direct-to-Consumer Products.

WWE has a long-standing tradition of creating custom WWE Championship replica titles as gifts for many of the top athletes and championship-winning franchises around the world. Most recently, WWE created a Los Angeles Dodgers-inspired title to commemorate their 2020 World Series victory, as well as a Washington Nationals-inspired title for their win the 2019 World Series.

Steve Cohen tweets about Mets hitting

Maybe Chili Davis shouldn't have been fired and replaced by Donnie Stephenson. Seriously though I know they brought in Hugh Quattlebaum ad the new hitting coach when they fired Davis but the question from even back then was, is it the players or is it the pitching coach or even the manager of the team. What happened to the hitters hat were hitting to get on base and to move runners over? When did the Team philosophy become hit the long ball? There definitely needs to be some philosophy changes on the approach to some players at the plate.

Here is the beginning of the honeymoon being over with fans and Steve Cohen.

Snarky Steve. Snarky.

Do I think the Mets make the post season?

I was at that fiasco of a game last night which the Mets lost to LA 14-4 and I was miserable. The game itself was just boring and running into Scherzer when the Mets can’t score runs as it is doesn’t help. It got me thinking about this team that was in first place most of the 2021 season and where they are now. I wasn’t expecting this team to be a first place team for as long as they were before this season started. I also didn’t think this was going to be the year that the new ownership was going make big, big splashes right away either. Trade for and sign Lindor? Who wouldn’t make that move who isn’t a Monday morning quarterback. I still think this trade and signing is going to work out for the Mets. The Baéz trade made no sense to me. Still doesn’t. There were no significant pitching pickups during the trade deadline and it seems like the front office is okay with going with what they had with team chemistry.

Team chemistry and bubblegum and duct tape eventually falls apart and a team can not maintain their luck and outlasting the eventual coming back to Earth. That whole Donnie Stephenson thing soured me on when it was rolled out and how no one realized when it needed to be dropped. There is something about some of the personalities on the team that I just don’t vibe with. Stroman annoyed me with running his mouth about how great he is without backing it up. He pitched. Has been doing his job pitching pretty well and has been backing it up. I respect that. Pete Alonso saying and believing that he is the best power hitter in the game makes me feel like he is delusional at this point.

Luis Rojas I really can’t figure him out. Does he know what he’s doing? Does he things to be counter intuitive? Is this his last season?

The Black Jerseys. I don’t like them on the field. Want to wear them as fans in the crowd fine with me. One of the biggest points folks brought up about how much they love the black jerseys because of 2000(Mets lost to Yankees in World Series), the early 2000s(Mets collapses) and the black jerseys were okayed by the Wilpons to sell merchandise and make money. I just feel that the aura of the black jerseys isn’t a positive thing.

It also seems like the Mets fans honeymoon with Steve Cohen might be over. Folks keep trying to spend his money, complaining about trades and non trades, and now they are starting to tweet at him about ticket prices and the possible playoff ticket prices.

So what are the Mets going to do? I don’t think they make the playoffs this year. I think more shifts will be happening in the front office and possibly on the bench and the team itself will be set up for a long starting next season. Let’s see.

QBC: Queens Baseball Convention Ideas

While Dan and I gear up for QBC 2021 at Mulcahy’s on November 13th, I was thinking. I was thinking that if our motto “For the Fans by Fans” is pretty cool. It’s also cool that we really mean it too. I was thinking this would be a good time for us to hear any ideas you guys might have. Now remember we have budget constraints and are a huge corporation that can just fund pipe dreams. We are willing to listen to reality based ideas and suggestions. If you guys have a company or know of a company that would like to sponsor players to bring in or to sponsor the different panels we are all for it. Let me know here, on @mediagoon or @QBConvention on Twitter or our Facebook pages.
