Queens Baseball Convention Releases Ticket Pricing for 2021 Event
September 23, 2021 – Ticket prices for the 2021 Queens Baseball Convention were announced earlier today with organizers touting their new ala carte options.
The new ticketing option allows fans to purchase a General Admission ticket by itself, without needing to purchase an autograph as well. Autograph fees have now been separated out and are available on a per guest basis.
“During our first several years the only way to attend the QBC was by buying a ticket and autograph package” explained co-founder Dan Twohig. “Because of the limited size of prior venues we were not able to offer just a general admission ticket. Now that we have moved to Mulcahy’s, a venue with a much larger capacity, we can add that option.”
General Admission tickets will be priced at $25 per person (plus tax and fees)
“With this new option we hope to attract a lot more Mets fans to come out and enjoy the day with us,” continued Twohig’s partner Keith Blacknick. “The new pricing allows families to come out at a very affordable price. Of course autographs will still be available, just with their own fee now.”
Autograph pricing was announced as follows:
Ron Darling solo autograph $40
Gary Cohen solo autograph $40
Ron & Gary combo autograph $75
Todd Frazier solo autograph $25
Gary Cohen Inscription “It’s Outta Here” $20
All other inscriptions $10
PSA will be on hand to authenticate any signatures (separate fee).
Tickets are expected to go on sale within the next few days at www.QueensBaseballConvention.comFor more information or for inquiries, please email us at QBC2016@gmail.com, or follow us on social media (Twitter @QBConvention or Facebook www.facebook.com/QueensBaseballConvention )

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Queens Baseball Convention Announces Shannon Forde as the 2021 Recipient of the Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award
September 22, 2021 – Organizers of the Queens Baseball Convention revealed today that former New York Mets Senior Director of Media Relations Shannon Forde will be the recipient of the 2021 Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award to be presented at 2021 QBC on November 13th.
Forde tragically passed away from breast cancer in 2016 at the age of 44.
A pioneer for women in baseball, Forde rose through the ranks in the Mets media department where she had worked for 22 years, establishing connections with players, reporters, and executives across all of baseball.
Her love of the Mets, and her love of baseball, was evident in everything she did throughout her career, from shepherding green- eyed rookies around Shea and CitiField, to running the 2013 All-Star Game, to being the point person on numerous charity endeavors (including Tuesday’s Children after 9/11).
Forde was also instrumental in getting the Mets media department to recognize non-traditional media outlets such as bloggers and independent websites.
“Without Shannon, there may not have been a QBC” stated co-founder Keith Blacknick. ”We were part of the extended Mets community and Shannon always treated us as such. She helped us establish our credibility and we will always be indebted to her for that.”
The Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award was established in 2014 in cooperation with the Hodges family. Presented annually to a person whose memory eternally warms our hearts, brightens our spirits and lights our way, as well as brings together the best elements of sportsmanship and humanity. Past recipients have included Gil Hodges, Tom Seaver, Ed Charles, Bud Harrelson, Bobby Valentine, and David Wright.
A member of Forde’s family will be accepting on her behalf at the 2021 QBC to be held on Nov. 13th at Mulcahy’s Pub & Concert Hall. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this week.

QBC: The 2021 Gil Hodges Award Recipient.
“ He Warms Our Hearts, Brightens Our Spirits, and Lights Our Way Still.” This is what is inscribed on each year’s award. The inscription couldn’t be more apropos for this year's recipient. This year’s recipient was instrumental with getting bloggers to be recognized by the Mets. This year’s recipient put themselves into their work with the Mets and the Mets community. This person was loved by all they met. This person was amazing to their family. This person was amazing to their extended family. In other words, this person was amazing in general. If it were not for this person, there might not be a QBC today.
The QBC’s Gil Hodges “Unforgettable Fire” Award committee is proud to announce that they are giving this award to a person who, when she passed away, left a hole in many, many people’s hearts. We are proud to give this award to Shannon Forde. Shannon Forde was an exemplary person. She worked tirelessly to make the Mets organization, Mets players, and the Mets community better. I honestly can go on and on about Shannon but we will save this for November 13th 2021.
If you have any memories of Shannon Forde and would like to either write or film a few words about her please do and send it to me at Mediagoon@gmail.com.

QBC Announces COVID Protocols for 2021 Event
September 20, 2021 – With the first live Queens Baseball Convention in almost 2 years now less than eight weeks away, organizers today announced protocols that will be put in place for the Nov. 13th event.
“While we all wish we could go back to how we hosted the QBC pre-pandemic, we have to live with the reality that things have changed. We want to provide both a fun and safe experience for everyone who comes out to Mulcahy’s in November” stated co- founder Dan Twohig.
The protocols that will be put in place are as follows:
• All attendees (paid attendees, guests, vendors, and volunteers) must be EITHER fully vaccinated OR if not vaccinated, must
present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the QBC start time, or a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 6 hours of the start time. This includes guests under 12 who are not yet eligible for a vaccine
o “Fully vaccinated” means the guest must have received the second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, or their first does of a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine (J&J) no later than September 30th
o Proof of vaccination must be presented in one of the following manners:
▪ A CDC vaccination record card
▪ A record of vaccination from the health care provider who administered the vaccine, along with a government-issued or official document bearing the name of the individual and a photo or date of birth matching the name on the COVID-19 vaccination documentation
▪ Printed COVID-19 vaccination documentation or a clear photo of documentation displayed on your iPhone or Android phone will be accepted
▪ NYC COVID Safe Pass, NewYork State Excelsior Pass, or EU Digital Passport will also be accepted
• All attendees must wear masks while inside the venue, except while eating or drinking in designated areas
• Guests who fail to comply with these protocols will not be admitted into the QBC, or will be asked to leave“We are still in a pandemic,” said Twohig’s partner Keith Blacknick, “but given these safety measures we can still gather together as Mets fans to celebrate the blue and orange. Of course if things change prior to the QBC we can and will adjust as needed.”
Ticket and autograph pricing will be announced this week. For more information or for inquiries, please email us at QBC2016@gmail.com, or follow us on social media (Twitter @QBConvention or Facebook www.facebook.com/QueensBaseballConvention )

Mets went 1 and 4 in Black Jerseys.
Can we now move beyond this black jersey nonsense since they went 1-4 while wearing them? I know I was being a pain in the ass with always commenting about them being worn and that since the Mets announced the return of the black jerseys. I was half joking about this. I wanted to get under the skin of folks who thought these jerseys were a "golden era" for the Mets. I get that every 20 years is usually when nostalgia hits and that this was a lot of the folks were young and growing up and this was "their jersey". I know a lot of folks forgot that the Mets teams during this era never won a World Series and also I can't forget about the collapses that happened. I stick by my guns and say it would have been cool if they just wore them for a game or two and not made such a big deal of them that the Mets did. I really hope that these don't end up being in the rotation next season.
I think I am going to stop harping on the black jerseys for a while and just see how this organization handles the second year of the Steve Cohen owner ship era.
Let's Go Mets.

RON DARLING AND GARY COHEN SET TO APPEAR AT THE 2021 QUEENS BASEBALL CONVENTION
Organizers of the Queens Baseball Convention announced today that Mets broadcasters Ron Darling and Gary Cohen will be appearing live at the 2021 QBC set to be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
Ron Darling, former Mets pitcher and member of the 1986 World Series Championship team, will be making his second appearance at the annual event run by and for Mets fans. Darling was at the inaugural QBC in 2014.
“Ronnie was an amazing first guest back when we started the QBC” recalled co-founder Keith Blacknick. “The fans love him and we have been asked many times over the years if we could bring him back. As we restart the QBC it seemed only appropriate to have Ronnie back this year.”
Gary Cohen, who has been broadcasting Mets games since 1989, will be making not only his first QBC appearance, but his first appearance at any fan event.
“Having Gary appear with Ronnie will be a real treat for everyone who comes out on Nov. 13” stated Blacknick’s partner Dan Twohig. “Knowing that Gary has never done an event like ours before makes this even more special.”
Darling and Cohen will be appearing together on a panel and will be doing a Q&A with those attending. Following the Q&A will be an autograph session where fans can get either or both of their signatures. (Pricing to be announced at a later date).
Blacknick and Twohig stated that more guests would be added in the coming weeks.
In addition to appearances, panels, and autograph sessions, the QBC will also include panels on other fan and Mets related topics, as well as a host of vendors.

What’s wrong with some baseball fans?
The wave is annoying. I have hated it since I was a kid. I want to be able to go to a game and be able to watch the game. Close one run game, “Hey! Let’s start the wave! Alonso is on the ground in the batter’s box.Let’s start the wave!” I don’t get this need to do something so stupid while an important play is happening Come on folks. When I was a kid I hated folks getting up and sitting in front of me while a I’m trying to see a play and then to miss it because folks want to do something so stupid. This also leads into me hating folks that have no baseball etiquette when they are leaving or going back to their seats. You know what I mean. Wait until the at bat is over.
These two “fans” last night who ran on the field blew my mind. Supposedly the first one was getting thrown out for throwing stuff on the field and he just said screw it and decided to run on the field. First of all why do that at all? Second of all why do it on 9/11? It’s supposed to be a day of remembrance and you are very lucky cops/security didn’t think you were more dangerous than just running onto the field for your 15 seconds of fame.
The second runner, I don’t even know why you would do something like that at all. Copy cat from the first guy? How do you think this was a good idea.
I also saw some fans pouring beer down in the the bullpen from The Coca Cola corner? Why? Why be jerks?
Fans just keep disappointing me more and more.
