METS SIGN OUTFIELDER TRAVIS JANKOWSKI AND LHP CHASEN SHREVE

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., MARCH 17, 2022 – The New York Mets today announced the club has signed outfielder Travis Jankowski and left-handed pitcher Chasen Shreve to minor league contracts with invitations to Major League Spring Training. 

 

Jankowski, 30, appeared in 76 games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2021 and slashed .252/.364/.351 with 24 runs, six doubles, two triples, one home run, 10 RBI, 22 walks and five steals. The left-handed hitter owns a career .239/.322/.318 slashline with 35 doubles, nine triples, nine home runs, 52 RBI, 69 steals and 118 walks in 426 games over seven seasons. 

 

The 6-2, 190-pounder was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in first round (44th overall) out of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. 

 

Shreve, 31, spent the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, appearing in 57 games for the club and posting a 3-3 record with a 3.20 ERA (20 earned runs/56.1 innings) with 28 walks and 45 strikeouts. He posted the ninth-lowest ERA in the National League among left-handed relievers (min. 50 games pitched) and held opposing hitters to 15 hits in 101 at-bats with runners on base (.149 average) in 2021.

 

He has appeared in 292 games across eight major league seasons, going 20-11 with two saves, a 3.63 ERA (115 earned runs/285.0 innings) with 142 walks and 313 strikeouts. He has held lefthanded batters to a .222 (91-410) batting average during his career.

 

The 6-4, 180-pounder spent the 2020 season with the Mets, going 1-0 with a 3.96 ERA (11 earned runs/25.0 innings) with 12 walks and 34 strikeouts across 17 games. Lefties were 2-32 (.063), the third-lowest mark in the majors (min. 20 left-handed batters faced) against Shreve in 2020.

 

He was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft of the College of Southern Nevada.
