METS ACQUIRE RHP MYCHAL GIVENS FROM CHICAGO-NL
FLUSHING, N.Y., August 2, 2022 – The New York Mets have announced that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Mychal Givens from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Saúl González.
Givens, 32, has gone 6-2 with two saves and a 2.66 ERA (15 ER/40.2 IP) in 40 games for the Cubs this season. His six wins lead all NL relievers and he is tied for 12th in the league with 51 strikeouts out of the bullpen. He has not allowed an earned run in his last 16 outings (17.1 IP) since June 16.
He has held right-handed hitters to a .196 average in his career, a mark that ranks fourth among qualifying pitchers since 2015 behind only Max Scherzer (.176), Aroldis Chapman (.185) and Raisel Iglesias (.188). Since his debut season in 2015, he ranks in the top 10 among all relievers in wins (31, tied for third), innings (437.0, seventh) and strikeouts (517, 10th).
An eight-year major league veteran, Givens has pitched for Baltimore (2015-2020), Colorado (2020-2021), Cincinnati (2021) and Chicago-NL (2022). In 400 career games, Givens is 31-22 with 31 saves, a 3.34 ERA (162 ER/437.0 IP), 179 walks and 517 strikeouts.
