MLBPA, MLB agree to tentative deal on first minor league CBA
This is a great thing to finally see happen. A majority of MiLB players were being paid way too low to the point that they couldn't even afford to play the game.
From The Athletic
If approved as expected by midnight on Friday, minor leaguers will have their salaries and working conditions set by a CBA in time for the start of the minor league season that day. The five-year deal would provide raises to minor league players and a slew of other improvements and codified changes that didn’t exist prior to the unionization of minor leaguers.
Under the CBA, minimum annual salaries will be as follows for the complex league and rookie status quo: $19,800, up from $4,800; Single A: $26,200, up from $11,000; High A: $27,300, up from $11,000; Double A: $30,250, up from $13,800; Triple A: $35,800, up from $17,500.
Among the other elements, players will have a formal grievance procedure. There will be no contraction of minor league teams for the term of the CBA, but MLB could make cuts to the domestic reserve list after the first year.

New K Korner at Citi Field
McFadden’s finally got replaced. Hopefully this is something that we can meet at games again. I did hear that you can scan your tickets to get in and out during the game.
FLUSHING, N.Y., March 28, 2023 – The New York Mets today announced that The K Korner, which will operate in the former McFadden’s location on Seaver Way, will open to fans on Thursday, April 6 for the Mets home opener. Fans will be able to enjoy food and beverages at The K Korner before, during and after all Mets home games this season.
The K Korner name is a nod to Section 44 at Shea Stadium, which became known as “The K Korner” during Doc Gooden’s starts, as fans would display K signs for each of Gooden’s strikeouts.
There will be an exclusive entrance to Citi Field through The K Korner for those with game tickets for convenient access to the game. Game tickets will not be required to enter The K Korner.
“This year, we’re focused on making Citi Field not just a place to watch the Mets, but also a social space for people to gather,” Mets Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Deline said. “Mets fans have been waiting for a space like The K Korner for years and we’re thrilled to provide an option for them to spend even more time at Citi Field cheering on their team and enjoying our robust menu.”
Pizza bagels from PopUp Bagels, cheese curds, wings, steakhouse melts, burgers and more pair with over 25 available beer options to highlight a food and beverage lineup that will allow fans to extend their enjoyment of the best culinary experience in professional sports.
The K Korner has a capacity of 450 people, which includes a 100-seat dining room, 60 barstools and standing room at the bar.
The bar and restaurant will also open during non-baseball events like NYCFC matches and concerts at Citi Field in 2023.
Mets New Scoreboard news. I guess?
Samsung Electronics and the New York Mets Hit a Home Run, Unveiling Newest and Brightest Outdoor LED Technology at Citi Field
Showcased at the Mets’ What’s New at Citi Field event, the new dual-sided centerfield scoreboard features groundbreaking technology that aims to reinvent the in-stadium experience for baseball fans
QUEENS, New York – March 28, 2023 – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and the New York Mets recently made sports history with the installment of the largest scoreboard across all professional ballparks. As fans gear up for the start of a new baseball season, they will have a firsthand look at the enhanced and fully upgraded dual-sided centerfield video board, which features a 17,400 square feet LED screen on the front and 6,900 square feet on the back. Since Fall of 2022, Samsung has installed over 29,800 square feet of new LED at Citi Field.
Unveiled for the first time at the Mets’ What’s New at Citi Field event on March 23, attendees had a sneak peek of what fans can expect for the upcoming season. The scoreboard is the highlight of the multiple digital display upgrades throughout the entire stadium, providing fans with a state-of-the-art display experience. Even as fans enjoy the new experienced introduced throughout the ballpark, the new scoreboard ensures that they won’t miss a moment of the action taking place on the field.
“As an emerging New York landmark, Citi Field continues to set itself apart with the integration of cutting-edge display technology that enhances the in-stadium experience for fans,” said James Fishler, Senior Vice President, Display and Home Entertainment Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung is a proud partner of the Mets and with the installment of the first-of-its-kind, double-sided LED display, we are excited to help the franchise reach the next level of technology innovation in professional sports.”
New Centerfield Scoreboard Brings Citi Field to Life
Since forming its partnership in 2021, Samsung has worked with the Mets to transform Citi Field into the most technologically advanced, professional ballpark. The multi-year digital transformation included the deployment of over 300 LFD displays and several new large-format LED displays last year, totaling over 15 million pixels. The second phase of installments, which will be fully operational by opening day on April 6, will feature several new outfield displays, including the new centerfield scoreboard, increasing the total pixel count in Citi Field to 40 million. In addition to the centerfield scoreboard, Mets fans will see display improvements in all corners of the stadium, including exterior signage, digital concession menu boards and more.
“Samsung’s innovative technology at Citi Field will expand the standard for what fans expect when entering the country's best stadiums. Over a two-year period, we’ve transformed a once static signage environment to an all-digital experience,” said David Phelps, Vice President, Product Management, Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “While working with the Mets, we’ve been able to push the boundaries of what is possible by delivering more creative and unique experiences for its fan base.”
The new LED technology also enables opportunities for DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home) advertising by transforming once static displays into a blank canvas of creativity. The scoreboard offers near unlimited configurations for advertisers to stand out from the competition and deliver entirely new visual experiences to fans. With the ability to accept multiple forms of content, the dynamic display helps foster the local economy by providing business owners with an affordable solution to advertise at Citi Field. The back of the dual-sided scoreboard reaches heights so tall that it’s visible from the highway, offering yet another opportunity to increase sponsorship and advertisement revenue, as well as inform and excite fans waiting to enter the stadium to join the action.
Immersive Entertainment for Every Fan
Citi Field’s main video LED board is substantially the largest scoreboard across all professional ballparks and over three times larger than Citi Field’s previous centerfield scoreboard. The expansive 17,400 square-foot high-definition video display ensures that no matter where fans are in the stadium, they won’t miss the action on or off the field. Including the new enhanced display on the back, the centerfield scoreboard features over 24,000 square feet of LED signage and over 13 million pixels, along with a high-resolution, 10mm pixel pitch display to enhance the in-stadium fan experience. Teams in the dugouts and fans in the stands alike can watch 4K instant replays, up-close game action, game stats, interactive updates and more.
“Samsung’s state-of-the-art technology upgrades at Citi Field underscore our goal of providing best-in-class experiences for our fans,” said Mark Brubaker, Chief Technology Officer, New York Mets. “The quality of these enhancements will not only provide our fans with more immersive and memorable visits to the ballpark, but it also positions Citi Field as a trailblazer in the industry.”
The iconic ballpark’s digital transformation demonstrates how today’s display technology can seamlessly integrate into stadiums and introduce unique interactive offerings for fans. Built for the future, Samsung’s technology upgrades to Citi Field create an interactive environment for all generations of baseball fans traveling to the ballpark.

Jumaane Williams wants Citi Field renamed
Before I post what the Daily News is reporting about Jumaane Williams, Citi Field/Mets, and CitiBank, I feel like there is more to this story.
This is all my opinion and conjecture and I have no hard evidence but just from what my eyes can see and what my brain is putting together. I’m more than likely wrong but here is my working theory anyway. This is about the parkland aka parking lots at Citi Field that Steve Cohen wants to build the casino on. There was new legislation up in Albany that I posted about the other day on here. It basically makes it easier to swap parkland out to be built on if the same amount of land is replaced as parkland nearby.
Now isn’t it funny that the whole idea of CitiBank is evil because of Climate Change and by renaming the ballpark something else and the Mets breaking their deal with Citi over naming rights will fix climate change? To me this seems like a political move. Not a move. A move that is basically using the environment for leverage. What leverage I don’t know. That’s why beyond my pay grade.
Anyway here is part of the story from the NY Daily News.
“New Yorkers know I bleed blue and orange — the Mets represent an incredible spirit, history and institution, and are a tremendous value to New Yorkers,” Williams said. “The practices of Citibank, though, don’t represent the values of the Mets or of our city, and we must demand better. If Citi refuses to end its toxic relationship with the fossil fuel industry, the Mets should end their partnership with Citi.” Williams, a progressive Democrat, plans to hold a Tuesday press conference in City Hall Park to formally call on Cohen to make the switch. Joining Williams for the event will be representatives from a number of local environmental groups, including New York Communities for Change, Climate Organizing Hub, Climate Families NYC, 350 NYC and Sunrise Movement NYC.
Like I said, I might be totally crazy about this.new legislation

New Legislation to help try to make Casino in Flushing a reality.
WILLETS POINT, Queens (PIX11) — Plans for a casino to be built at Citi Field have taken a notable step forward, with the introduction of new legislation in Albany. It would allow a gaming facility to be built on part of the ballpark’s parking lot, if Mets owner Steve Cohen is granted one of three downstate New York casino licenses that are set to be granted later this year.
Environmental and parkland advocates are skeptical of the legislation, which was introduced in the statehouse on Wednesday. However, its sponsor says that his proposal adds public space and benefits the community.
At the core of the legislation is the fact that New York state considers the Citi Field parking lot to be parkland. In order for even part of it to be turned into a casino requires what’s called “parkland alienation.” Essentially, it’s the reduction of parks space.
In the specific case of Citi Field’s parking lot, any reduction in its parking lot — which is legally considered parkland — would require other parkland to be established somewhere else, according to the new legislation. It was first reported by The City. His bill would require that at least 20 acres of parkland be created elsewhere if part of the Citi Field parking lot was allowed to be a gaming facility.
More specifically, said Aubry, a right of way that would be operated by New York City’s parks department would be created that would connect the World’s Fair Marina, north of the ballpark, with the U.S. Tennis Center, in Flushing Meadows, to the ballpark’s south.
“This application would create that kind of access,” Aubry said, “because I felt it would be an advantage for the people who use both [the marina and tennis center].”
