METS TEAM UP WITH ABSENCE OF PROOF TO BRING MOCKTAIL POP-UP EXPERIENCE TO CITI FIELD

Non-alcoholic event will run from June 29-July 2; tickets on sale now

METS TEAM UP WITH ABSENCE OF PROOF TO BRING

MOCKTAIL POP-UP EXPERIENCE TO CITI FIELD

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 31, 2023 – The New York Mets are teaming up with the national non-alcoholic pop-up Absence of Proof to bring a fun non-alcoholic experience to Citi Field. Fans ages 21 and up can enjoy a ballgame at Citi Field while sipping on refreshing craft mocktails and other non-alcoholic beverages during this special experience.

The event, presented by Cadillac and Dunkin’, will run in the Piazza Club on the Excelsior level for four home games: Thursday, June 29 vs. the Milwaukee Brewers and June 30-July 2 vs. the San Francisco Giants. The event will feature traditional lawn games, a DJ, a lounge area for socializing, a 360° photo booth, visits from Mr. and Mrs. Met, and a full non-alcoholic bar complete with craft cocktails, wines and beers.

Tickets are available now and can be purchased online at fevo.me/absenceofproof. A limited number of tickets are available at a $100 price point that include all-you-can-drink at the pop-up, plus access to a reception, a gift bag, a raffle ticket and a game ticket. All profits from ticket sales for the pop-up event will be donated to the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, which will use the funds to provide a grant to Elmcor, a nonprofit based in Queens, New York. The grant will support Elmcor’s comprehensive behavioral health services for the community, including substance use treatment programs.

“Many of our Amazin’ fans are interested in enjoying a fun mocktail environment,” said Alex Cohen, Mets Owner & President of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation. “We are thrilled to partner with Absence of Proof to bring a new and innovative alcohol-free experience to Citi Field.”

The non-alcoholic pop-up is just one of the many ways the Mets are creating a more inclusive experience at Citi Field. The organization is committed to exploring innovative ways to enhance accessibility and improve the fan experience at the ballpark.

Since launching in New York City, Absence of Proof has become a leader in the ‘sober-curious’ scene, creating a more inclusive environment for those choosing not to drink for any reason. There’s been exponential growth in the ‘sober-curious’ community over the last several years, particularly amongst Millennial and Gen Z consumers, and demand for alcohol alternatives has been booming. Absence of Proof offers a unique alternative to alcoholic beverages that helps consumers prioritize wellness and self-improvement.

“I noticed the lack of nightlife and social options that didn’t center around alcohol,” Absence of Proof Founder and CEO, 25-year-old Elizabeth Gascoigne said. “I personally understand the need for these booze-free experiences and I fundamentally felt the otherness of being the only one not drinking in those typical alcohol-centric environments.”

Since being founded in 2022, Absence of Proof has hosted pop-up events across the country, leading to features in New York Times, Fortune, Financial Times, Thrillist, and SELF magazine, and partnering with organizations like Bumble, James Beard Foundation, INTER_ museum and more to create more inclusive environments for their events.

SARAH LANGS TO PARTICIPATE IN LOU GEHRIG DAY AT CITI FIELD

SARAH LANGS TO PARTICIPATE IN LOU GEHRIG DAY AT CITI FIELD

Mets To Celebrate Lou Gehrig Day on June 2

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 31, 2023 – The New York Mets will host Lou Gehrig Day at Citi Field on Friday, June 2 when the team takes on the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:10 p.m. New York City native Sarah Langs, who shared her ALS diagnosis last year, will participate in a special pre-game ceremony. During the ceremony, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation will present Project ALS with a $10,000 grant for research in honor of Langs.

Langs, raised on the Upper East Side, grew up attending Mets games with her family at Shea Stadium. She began her career in baseball as an intern for MLB.com, making stops at ESPN and SNY and currently works as a researcher and analyst for MLB. The 29-year-old was part of the first all-female MLB broadcast in 2021. At the 2023 Baseball Writers’ Association of America New York chapter dinner, Langs was the recipient of the Casey Stengel “You Could Look It Up” Award.

Project ALS identifies and funds the most promising scientific and medical research that will lead to the first effective treatments and a cure for ALS. In 20 years since the organization began, Project ALS has raised over $90 million, directing between 80-93 percent of its funds annually to research programs.

“The Mets are rooting for Sarah in her courageous fight,” said Alex Cohen, Mets Owner and President of the Amazin’ Mets Foundation. “We are proud to support Sarah and Project ALS.”

Lou Gehrig Day at Citi Field will help raise awareness for ALS and the research that continues to drive towards a cure. Gehrig, a Hall of Fame first baseman, was diagnosed with the neuromuscular illness in 1939. In 2021, Major League Baseball designated June 2 as Lou Gehrig Day as it is the anniversary of when Gehrig became the Yankees’ starting first baseman in 1925 and his death in 1941.

In addition, each broadcast booth across the league will hang an illuminated star named “A Langs Star,” courtesy of Project ALS. Fans will also be able to purchase A Langs Star for $50 at starsforsarah.org.

"A Langs Star is more than a keepsake—it’s a shining symbol of our shared commitment to end ALS,” said Project Manager Sage Higgins of Project ALS. “Made of wood with a commemorative placard and LED lighting, display them on your roof, windows, or inside your home. Proceeds from sales benefit Project ALS, a leader in therapy-driven research."

Casino News from May 15th

This was from May 15th and Curbed talks about what's going on with the Billionaires who are vying to bring a casino to NYC. I still feel that Empire and Resort Worlds might be getting the license since they are already set up to go to bring in a live casino and not just video style games. That would make one license left if this happens. So, if that does happen who gets the third license.

From Curbed.com

Then Jay-Z, whose entertainment company Roc Nation is partnering with SL Green and Caesar’s on the Times Square casino bid, posted an open letter on Instagram, pleading with New Yorkers to pick him. “This is too important of a moment in our city’s illustrious history” the letter warned. New Yorkers should go with an operator who puts them “at the top of their agenda.” New Yorkers may be forgiven for having some doubts that a Times Square casino would really have their best interests at heart. Especially as the biggest sweetener — $115 million for diverse theater programs that include daycare for Broadway workers — seems aimed at softening up a group of Broadway owners who’ve been trying to block the Times Square casino. (Nor is it the first time Jay-Z has been deployed to win over casino skeptics: “I remember one of the companies excitedly told me about Jay-Z. ‘He’s coming on board. Maybe you want to meet him?’”  state senator Liz Krueger told Bloomberg earlier this year.)

And then there’s Steve Cohen. “Uncle Stevie” has, of late, become something of a beloved New York figure for spending gobs of money on the Mets. Now he’s spending gobs of money — more than anyone else so far — on winning a casino license. (You may also remember when Cohen, a few years back, spent gobs of money paying the government an $1.8 billion penalty after his hedge fund was found guilty of securities fraud.) Cohen has hired eight firms, employed nearly two dozen lobbyists and spent over $1 million on a multimedia lobbying campaign, according to Bloomberg.  There have been 14 ‘visioning’ sessions to win over Queens residents, hundreds of hot dogs, social media campaigns and “a website called ‘Queens Future’ to promote Cohen’s vision of building a Vegas-style casino in a parking lot next to Citi Field. “In Queens, we never settle for the status quo,” the website boasts. “We deserve better than 50 acres of asphalt.” Hard to disagree with that.

Who do you want to see at QBC 2023 in December?

Hey everyone! Yep, I know we haven’t gotten to the Lunch with Howie Rose yet but I wanted just start kicking the tires on who to bring in to the show in December. Remember there are money constraints to bring players in. “I want Mike Piazza!” Sure we can get Mike but expect tickets to QBC to be around $100 for admission without any autographs included. We need some player names that aren’t Piazza level talent that you would want to see. Trust me, I’d love a Piazza or Piazza level talent but also don’t want to kill anyone on admission prices. Unless we can get a sponsor or two. Do you guys have any companies that would want to be a sponsor? Hit me up at QBCsponsorships@gmail.com.

@ESPN not acknowledging the Mets winning Tampa Bay series

Thanks to Pete for the tip.

Come on ESPN. I expect my little one man operation over here to mess up now and then with typos, grammatical errors, and such. But, you folks over there have editors, writers, and fact checkers over there who are getting paid to make sure the content is correct. Sheesh.
